The next day, I saw John.
And the next day.
And the next day.
It went on like this for awhile, until one day he didn't show up. I didn't ask him if he was going to be at the park the day before, I had just assumed he would. He had become a good friend of mine, and I learned alot about him. It turns out he's a grade older than me, and he goes to a different school. I also learned he and his friends have the "best band ever", The Quarrymen, I think it was called. I also learned that he lived with his Aunt, and sadly his mother had died a few months back. I felt terrible about it, since he was such a nice boy.
I came home and sat down at the kitchen table, grabbing my book. My mom looked over at me, confused.
"Home so soon?" she asked. I nodded.
"Yeah..."
"You've been going to the park alot lately. How come?"
"Well..." I trailed off. My mom motioned for me to continue. "There's a boy." Mom sat down next to me excitedly.
"Tell me all about it!" She squealed.
Yeah, my mom was like this sometimes.
"Well, er, I went to the park a week or two ago, and I heard someone playing my favorite Buddy Holly song on a guitar. I went to see who it was, and it was a boy named John. John Lennon. We're good friends now." My mom smiled.
"Do you... Like him?" I blushed.
"Y-yes?"
She laughed. "Well, maybe one day I can meet this John, if you ever become a couple. I can't see why he wouldn't like you back!"
This was good. My Mom was fine with it. But then I sighed.
"He didn't show up today, so that's why I came back."
"Maybe he's busy with schoolwork."
I nodded. "Maybe," I said, and went upstairs to shower.
After my shower I had to finish my homework. I pulled out my math book and turned to the page I had to do. I remember John telling me that he hated math... Ugh, I needed to stop thinking about John...
But I couldn't. The whole time I was doing my homework my mind kept drifting back to John, his Liverpudlian accent ringing through my head. I finally finished my homework and picked up my book. I tried to read.
What?! I counldn't even read without thinking about John!
This is tough. I never had feelings like this for a boy before, let alone one I only knew for a week.
I HAD to see him tomorrow.

Saturday.
I woke up and breathed in, sighing happily. Maybe John would be back today. The whole day I tapped my feet, waiting impaintently, and when evening came I sprang out of my seat.
"Bye, Mom!" I called, hopping on my bike and pedaling down to the park. I parked my bike and strolled towards our usual spot underneath a tree. I rounded the corner of the path and spotted exactly what I was looking for - John sitting underneath the tree, strumming his guitar.
"John!" I cried, running over to him and sitting down. He laughed.
"You're exicted to see me!"
Then I remembered I didn't see him yesterday.
"Where were you yesterday?" I asked. I made puppy dog eyes and we both started laughing.
"Ahaha... Oh, sorry, Alyssa... I had a gig."
"A gig?" I asked. "Oh, The Quarrymen!"
"Well, we're not too big right now but eventually we're gonna rise to the toppermost of the poppermost!" John declared, dramatically placing a hand over his heart and pointing his index finger to the sky. I giggled.
"I hope you make it to the, er, 'topprmost', then!" I said. He placed an arm around me, causing me to blush.
"Imagine it, Alyssa. Me band and I, playing on a stage in front of thousands of people. Maybe even at a staidum! And you'll be by my side the whole time." I blushed even more.
"Me? By your side?" I asked, pulling away to look at him. He nodded.
"You and me, buddies and pals. Everyone should bring one'a their best friends to concerts with them!"
I was so happy. John thought of me as a best friend! I don't care if I've only known him for such a short time, he's my best friend, too! If only I could make him more than a best friend, somehow...
