Your POV

The party starts coming to a close and everyone has already had a slice of cake except you. You walk to the table and grab the knife to cut yourself a slice of cake. As soon as you put the piece on your plate you feel a pair of hands wrap around your waist and you hear a deep voice speak into your ear.

"Hey I thought you already had a piece of cake firework," Max says into your ear. His chest is pressed up against your back and you can feel the warmth coming off of him. You feel your heart flutter as his lips press against your neck. You set the plate down and turn and see his smile.

You smile but it fades as you know what you have to do. "Max there's something we need to talk about," You tell him. He stares at you confused then smiles and starts to pull you back into the living room. "It can wait (Y/N) we are about to open the presents," He says taking no for an answer.

You know you should talk to him afterward but then words just flood your mind and you feel your mouth open with the sad words.

"Max I love you but I don't think you love me. You love someone else and I know you don't want to admit. It's okay to like him, Max, if I keep dating you I'll pull you away from who you're really meant to be with and I can't do that," You say trying to keep the tears back.

Max pulls you forward and kisses you but this time you just don't feel anything but sadness. The kiss doesn't feel right but forced. You pull away and you can see him start to cry. You wipe away his tear and smile sadly at him.

"Come on Max you broke your rib. Please don't start crying on me now," You tears falling from your own face. He opens his mouth to say something but he closes it and the tears keep coming. "Max I love you for you. But I don't want to hold you back. It's okay if you like him just go for it, he likes you as well."

You fish your keys out of your pocket and walk outside and feel the cool air hit your body. You look back at the house and see Max hurrying to open the door and running outside. Before he can say anything you stop him and speak yourself.

"Max come talk to me when you finally feel like you can be yourself," You say wiping away a tear. He looks at you and strand of his ginger hair falls on his eye. "BUT WHAT IF I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT TO FEEL," He shouts crying. You get in your car and cry.

Max none of us know how we want to feel. Before anything else can happen you start the car and drive to your apartment. When you finally get inside you run in and slam the door. You rush into your room and lay on your bed crying.

Come on (Y/N) crying won't solve anything. You let the tears flow and when they finally stop, you wipe your eyes and walk out of your room into your kitchen. You look around your dull apartment and it doesn't feel right.

"I think it's time for a change of scenery," You say and get onto your computer and start your research.

Time skip to the morning

Your eyes open taking in the objects surrounding you. Boxes fill your apartment and your computer is open still showing the website you were on the day before. Well, I guess I needed to take a new step in my life. You stand and grab some of the boxes and move to the door.

You place the boxes on the ground and dig out your keys to your car and open the front door. When you open the door Max is there standing there with his hand raised about to knock on the door. You look at him and his eyes seemed tinged red. You give him one last look before grabbing your boxes and taking them out to your car.

"(Y/N) what are you doing?" Max asks while you place the boxes on your car. You go back into your apartment and grab some more. "I'm moving Max. Now you can stand there and stare at me, or you can grab some boxes and be useful."

He grabs the boxes and starts helping you. After about fifteen minutes the two fo you loaded all the boxes in your car without any words said. You walk back in your apartment giving it one last look checking to see if you left anything inside. Walking back outside you pass Max and sit in the front seat of your car.

"(Y/N) Don't leave yet I need to talk to you," Max says to you. You roll your eyes and unlock the car rolling down your window. "Get in we can talk while I move out," You say reaching over opening the passenger side door. He climbs in and you drive off to your new house.

"So what did you want to talk about Max?" You ask him keeping your eyes on the road. You steal a glance at him and see him crying a little bit. A pulse of protection shoots through you and curiosity fills your head. "You know Max if you don't want to talk abou-"

"I think I like Ross (Y/N)," He blurts out cutting you off. As soon as he said that a fresh wave of tears rolled down his face. You keep driving but move a hand to pat Max on the shoulder. "I know Max and it's okay if you like him. No one will judge you for who you are or who you like," You tell him stealing a glance at his crying form.

In the corner of your eye, you see him look at you with tear stained cheeks. "What if he doesn't like me back (Y/N)?" Max asks you. You scoff internally as you reach the house you bought.

Before talking to Max you look at the two story house. Three bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living and dining room, garage, a somewhat big backyard, and your favorite part the greenhouse in your backyard.

"Wow (Y/N) you bought all this?" Max asks you completely dumbfounded by the house. You smile and get out of the car. I can't believe I bought a house either. "Yeah Max I did buy all of this. Now how about we take a look inside."

You both walk in the house taking in the bare surroundings. "Max lets go outside I wanna check out my greenhouse," you tell him grabbing his hand and running outside. You go outside and see a grove of trees and next to them is your greenhouse.

"(Y/N) I didn't know you gardened," he says looking at the inside of your greenhouse. You walk up to the greenhouse and imagine you plants full and blooming. "I don't at least not yet. My mom used to garden, her favorite plant were her hibiscuses. She would always take some petals and make tea out of them," You tell Max recollecting your mother's tea.

"It sounds nice," he responds. "Yeah, it was," You say wiping away a tear. You two both walk inside your house and sit on the floor. "Max you need to tell Ross how you feel," You say to Max. His brown eyes widen in fear and he is rendered speechless.

"He likes you too Max. Ask him on a date. He'll say yes Max I promise,"You say engulfing him in a warm embrace. You can feel him stifling back tears. "Thank you (Y/N) I'm glad I have a friend like you," he says smiling at you with his brown eyes that hold his secret.

He stands up and you stand up too. You give him one last hug and send him on his way to Ross. "(Y/N) can I borrow your car so I can get to my own car, I'll return it I promise," he asks.

"Of course Max and when you return my car you better return with Ross holding your hand," You order him playfully. You hand him your keys and he walks to your car. "Max wait, hold on let me take my stuff out of my car before you leave," you say running to your car.

Before he can leave you take all of your boxes out of your car and set them inside your house. You give Max one last smile and wave and then he drives off to see Ross. "I hope your relationship turns out better than mine," you say to yourself.

You go inside and survey the room taking in where to put everything. You already had a mover move some furniture back to your house from your old apartment. I guess I'll start unpacking then.

You start to unpack everything but when you open the first box there's a note.

"You thought you could hide from me (Y/N). Well just because you got a new house doesn't mean I don't know where to find you."

You start to fall backward and drop the note. You crawl to the corner and holding your knees up to your face you look around the house. Tears fall down your face and you start to shake.
