Your POV

When you exit the room and reach the base of the stairs you glance behind you and see everyone staring openmouthed at you. You smile to yourself and walk up the stairs to the end of the hallway. You stop at the end and look through the glass doorway that stands between you and the outside of a balcony.

How did I not notice this door last night? I slept right next to it. You place your hand on the handle and open the door. Air drifts in from the open doorway but it was not cold as you expected. "You were probably expecting freezing cold air huh?" Santiago's voice came from behind you.

You turn and look at him smiling. "It doesn't get really cold here in Texas so close to spring," He said moving past you and going outside. Confused you follow him outside and stand next to him on the balcony. "In fact, I'm surprised it's not humid as El Infierno," He said to you jokingly.

"How is hell humid? Isn't it just fire?" you ask him knowing full well you're going to regret starting this conversation He simply smiled and shook his head. "Hell has nine levels in the fifth level of hell -those who sinned in anger- suffer in the swamps of hell," he explains to you.

"I regret ever asking you this question," You tell him with a smile. He laughs and looks out into the forest breathing a sigh. "Its okay Mija no es importante," He tells you switching to Spanish. You look at him with curious eyes and he seems to that you're looking at him. "What is it (Y/N)?" He asks you.

"Why did you switch to Spanish at the weirdest moments?" You ask him remembering when he saved you he spoke in Spanish. You ran his hand across the back of his neck and considered his answer. "I speak in Spanish whenever I get angry, when I want to make a point, or just casually," He says to you.

"What about after you woke up from having drunk sex with Max?" You say with a mischievous smile. He blushes "I umm don't speak when I'm uh drunk?" he says trying to distract the fact that he had drunk sex. You dismiss his comment with a laugh and try to change the subject.

"Hey, Santiago?" You ask him. He glances at you and you can tell he knows something. "What is it (Y/N)?" He responds. "Why do you think my brands disappeared?" You ask him. He seems confused so you recount your dream to him.

He says nothing and listens intently hanging on every word coming out of your mouth. After you finish he doesn't say a word. "(Y/N) I need you to follow me," He tells you and grabs your hand. He leads you through the hallway on the first floor. Stopping at a large ornate wooden door he knocks three times then enters.

You walk and see the inside of Santiago's study but from the view of the first floor. The book covered walls and the smell of new paper invade your senses. He speeds over to an older looking shelf and pulls out a book with a navy cover. Walking over quickly over to an empty table he sets the book down. A small film of dust envelops the book but then quickly dissipates. He opens the book and scrolls through the pages completely immersed. You can tell he found what he needed when he smiles a bit and looks at you.

Keeping a finger on the page he explains what he found. "Looking at this sometimes after a sudden current event you're body reacts to key emotions like sadness, happiness, or fear. Coinciding with those emotions you're body mixes with those emotions, and scars, for instance, have a tendency to disappear," He explains to you.

You look at him trying to understand what he said but he can tell you didn't get a word of it. Sighing in an annoyed tone he explains again "basically your brain got rid of your scars because you wanted them gone." He seemed bored with the final answer but you got it.

"Are you sure that's what happened?" you ask him questioning his methods. He rolls his eyes and opens the book to the front page of the old book. "Look at who its written by (Y/N)," He says pointing to the author. You squint your eyes to look at the spidery handwriting and see its written by a Dr. Salem Budrow.

"What kind of a first name is Salem?" he playfully slaps your shoulder then proceeds to give you a history lesson. "She studied brain phenomenon in college and graduated top of her class. She published her works in this book and needless to say I was fascinated. When I met her at an event we became really good friends and she gave me this copy, which might I add has all of her notes, before she went to study abroad in Singapore. Something about the people there interested her."

"She sounds really cool," You tell him. He smiled and dazed off into the other book on the walls. "Yeah she was cool I take pride in this little corner of the world I own," He said with a smile. You turn and examine all the books and wonder How long did it take him to get all of these.

"You'll be leaving soon won't you (Y/N)," Santiago says sadly. You look at him with tears forming "Yeah, I guess my story here is coming to an end." He smiles and embraces you, you can feel his heartbeat beating slowly against his chest. "Andale hija lets get you and the others ready to leave for tonight. I'll even get you a plane to return home," He tells you.

You both return to visit the others and you make plans to leave. After breakfast, Max and Mark go into the backyard and talk about god knows what.

"He's probably grilling him about drunk sex," Santiago says when he sees your concerned look. Ross and Santiago Spent the day catching up in his study while you stood on the second floor reading all of his books. The doorbell rang and when you opened the door you see London with a smile and a bag in her hand.

"I heard you were leaving and I thought we could have a girl's day here," She said smiling. You notice she redid her hair to chestnut with blond. "Yeah let's go up to my room and we can talk," You say leading her upstairs. Right before you go to your room London pulls out a key and opens the second-floor study room and announces herself.

"Hey Santi I'm upstairs with (Y/N)," She shouts. He looks up surprised from a chair and a cup of coffee with Ross, Smiles and shouts back "Girl I don't care just don't dress her in drag." London laughs and you take her to the room you were staying in.

You sit on the bed and she pulls the chair out from under the desk and sits down. "So how are you liking Dallas?" She asks you. You laugh and admire her hair change "I really wouldn't know I haven't spent much time looking around considering my friend got kidnapped." London's face turns surprised and ashamed but you just laugh it off.

"It's okay from what I saw it's pretty nice," You tell her. She quickly regains composure and tries to rekindle the conversation. "I like Dallas even if it is a little too close to home, but it's nice owning my own shop next to Santiago's even if it does have its fair share of bad people," she says.

"I didn't get to see your shop but it looks nice from the outside," You tell her. "Thanks," She responds. "I've been meaning to ask but where did you get a sniper rifle and an assault rifle from?" You ask her. She chuckles and examines her hands.

"Well, I did need to get a license to have, own, and carry a concealed and loaded weapon. Not to mention the permits I had to get to have more than one in my shop. It was a process but after 7 guns I decided to stop, I felt safe enough," She says very casually as if she was talking about candy.

"Did you say 7?" You exclaim. She nods her head and pulls open her phone to show you a picture of a wall with guns mounted on it. "It's all legal though and I am trusted to have them," she explains. You calm down a bit even though you shouldn't have been worried in the first place.

"How can you live with it?" You ask London out of the blue. She glances up and gives you a confused look. "Live with what?" She asks. You looked at her and instead of a calm woman you see the lady before with gun standing with bullets flying out calm as if nothing was happening. It scared you.

"Live with the fact that you have killed people their blood is on your hands," You tell her. London seems taken back by the question and you both are left in silence. The question hangs in the air and the silence grows so heavy you can hear your drumming heartbeat in your ears.

"I guess it was just something I had to do. To protect the ones I care about," She says to you. Your eyes widen and you hear your mother's words "It's okay (Y/N) I love you and I want you to grow up to be a beautiful woman. My life ended when I lost your father but I need you keep going forward. For the both us."

Tears fall down your face and you barely feel London wrapping you in her arms and holding you as you feel the weight of her words on your shoulders. Finally realizing what she meant all those years ago.
