Chapter 15: Leo
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A long time, Leo was scared.
He knew it sounded ridiculous, too. Leo Valdez was powerful, handsome, and strong. He shouldn’t have feared anything.
But alas, he feared for his life.
You’re too powerful and hot to be fearful, bro, his subconscious scolded. You’re mostly hot, but you get the point.
He had to stay confident that he would defeat Mimas.
Leo was walking to the Temple of Hephaestus (A.K.A. the Hephaisteion) to fight Mimas.
He was so thankful that Hecate had visited his dream and told him where the Hephaisteion was. She had even shown him what the temple looked like and what its surrounding area looked like.
(It had taken him forever to learn how to say the Hephaisteion correctly. It took him even longer to pronounce the Agoraois Kolonos, which was the hill the temple was on.)
It was so hot outside, and Leo was ninety percent sure it wasn’t just his mega hotness. He wiped sweat from his face, feeling all of his energy drain away.
Even though he started to feel guilty, he pulled the magical credit card from his pocket. It was Annabeth’s international credit card for emergencies only. She had lost it when falling into Tartarus. Or so she said. Leo had been looking in her room for maps when she first went missing when he found a whole stash of international credit cards. Feeling like she was being a bit selfish for hogging up all these credit cards, he had taken one.
Since he was in the middle of Athens, which was a huge city, he went inside one of the little shops on the road. He bought himself a soda, which the man at the register called pop.
People in Greece sure were weird.
Or maybe it was just him, since he was the American in this situation.
Once Leo had emptied the bottle of soda, which was sweeter and bubblier than the soda in America, he was feeling much better. He practically skipped the rest of the way.
Something was up.
Leo started recognizing the surroundings. The earth started to arch up in a hill, and he found a dirt trail. He began to jog up the trail when he noticed the mortals.
Mortals were walking up to the trail, but they suddenly froze in place. Their eyes would bug out of their heads, and they would stiffly turn around. They would just walk away.
