Chapter 5
I woke up this morning feeling a little different today. I am twenty eight weeks and getting bigger; I swear it’s like a swallowed a watermelon. I got out of bed and decided I needed a bath to try and relax by body. I felt so sore all over and my back was starting to hurt with all this extra weight I’m carrying.
The bath worked a little but I was running late for school, thank god I only live ten minutes away. I got to school on time with five minutes to spare. It got to the point where I couldn’t even carry my school bag without my back hurting. My first class of the day was English which wasn’t so bad. We were watching Romeo and Juliet so I didn’t need to do any work, but as the day went on I was starting to get light pains.
“I feel sore. My stomach goes a little hard and I get a pain in my back,” I said to the school nurse during the lunch break. “It might just be Braxton Hicks. They are false contractions that women get during pregnancy. I think it’s just a false alarm honey, but you’re more than welcome to go to the hospital and get checked out,” the school nurse told me.
“I think I’ll go get checked out,” I said to her.
My mum arrived twenty minutes later to take me to the doctor, and just like the nurse said at school they were only Braxton Hicks. I had my mum take me back to school because I had an exam and I couldn’t miss it. The kids at school finally stopped talking about me and they treated me like they did before I got pregnant. I was grateful because I don’t like it when people treat me different compared to how they used to.
The exam wasn’t as hard as I thought, so hopefully I passed.
“I’m taking you out to dinner for your birthday, so don’t make plans for that Friday,” Garry said.
“Where are we going?” I asked him.
“I’m not saying; it’s a surprise,” he replied, even though my birthday isn’t for another eight weeks. He must be planning something special.
Thank god the day was over! I’m really getting sick of going to school. I want to talk to mum about getting a tutor so I don’t have to go anymore. It’s just getting to me. I come home from school and all I want to do is eat and sleep. Sometimes during class I nod off for a few minutes at a time.
“Mum, can we get a tutor? Schools just getting way too hard, I fell asleep three times in history today! I just can’t concentrate anymore,” I said “
“But honey, you only have a few months left. Then the holidays are here,” mum said. ‘Gosh, why does she have to be so difficult I thought to myself,’ I huffed and walked away.
“I’ll talk to your father and see what he thinks of it okay? I can’t promise you anything, but I will talk to your father,” she said after I walked away.
“Thank you,” I replied.
Garry come over at about seven thirty, after dinner to see how I was doing. I seemed very hormonal these last few days and I’ve been snapping at him for no reason. We sat in bed and he gave me a massage because I felt so sore. “My whole body hurts, not just my back,” I complained out loud.
“You’re such a sook,” he said to me, so I picked up my pillow and whacked him in the head with it.
“You would be to if you felt and looked like me at the moment,” I said angrily at him. He knew I was cranky because he grabbed me and pulled me into a nice tight hug.
Garry was sound asleep before I was even sleepy, so I got up and had a bath. The warm water felt so nice against my skin. My muscles started to relax straight away, I couldn’t help but notice that my bellybutton started to pop. It looked so cute, but ugly at the same time. I washed my hair in my favorite strawberry and mango shampoo and rinsed it out. Hopping out of the bath I got dressed into a pair of Garry’s trackies and a shirt. His pants always seemed more comfy than mine did.
I climbed into bed and Garry didn’t even stir. He slept like he was dead; nothing could wake him up. I tried tickling his face, pinching his cheek and his nose, but nothing not even a sound. ‘Guess I have to fall asleep on my own,’ I thought to myself. I know I won’t get much sleep when Chloe arrives, and I’ve been so tired during the day, but I can’t seem to fall asleep straight away at night.
About an hour later I slowly drifted off to a beautiful dream of our baby girl.
I woke up at ten a.m., and I felt great. I’ve got more energy now then I have the whole entire pregnancy. I decided to clean up my room and do some laundry. Mum and Garry just kept looking at me funny as I walked to and from the laundry room.
Our baby girl had so many clothes I didn’t think I’d have enough room to put them all. “She has so many clothes,” I said to mum and Garry.
“Well she’s going to be one spoilt little girl,” mum replied.
I did about six loads of baby wash, and that was just clothes. I thought it was time to take a break for some lunch. Mum cooked up some chicken and made a salad. Mmm it was so yummy! The chicken was nice and juicy and it made my mouth water with every bite.
“Thank you for lunch mum,” I said to her.
She smiled and said, “Your welcome honey,” and continued to wash the dishes. Oh well, I think it’s time to fold and pack away all the clothes I just washed while the first load of blankets were on.
Her drawers are nearly full already. Thank God I can hang her dresses and that up in the wardrobe. I started singing to myself and my little jellybean starting kicking and turning. I don’t know if she liked it or not, my guess is she was trying to tell me to stop.
‘Clothes folded and packed away, time for a little nappy nap,’ I thought. I went to my room and I laid down and went straight to sleep. Again I dreamed of our little girl, she had beautiful green eyes like her daddy and blonde curly hair. She had a little button nose and looked very healthy and chubby.
I woke up with tears in my eyes, just thinking of how beautiful our little girl will look.
