It had been a few weeks since the Sebastian incident and the weather had gotten colder as the days went by. Gray snow littered the stone floors outside and the white plastic like tops of our units.
We had never had pure white snow or, well, for as long as I had lived. It had been a while since anything but freezing winters and chilly summers had been upon The Commonwealth. Sometimes I wished the sun would return but there are other times that I appreciate that there is no sunlight to look forward to.
Though I hadn't seen Luke, Alex, nor Sebastian since the time that I had left his unit to go to my own. I remember as if it was yesterday. Which it actually was but only because Alex hadn't trusted that I'd be left at home alone for the sake of my safety, I assume as much.
I trudged my way through the thin layer of watery snow towards Alex's unit, hoping to see Alex, obviously, and Luke as well, to speak to both of them at the same time instead of creeping up on Luke or Alex if I didn't see them during school.
I lightly tapped on the glass door to see Luke walking towards me in dark gray sweats and a blue sweatshirt. As he came closer I noticed that he was wearing hot pink fluffy socks on his feet. I began to laugh until he reached the door, then I clamped my mouth shut, biting done on my lips to keep from bursting out in a fit of giggles.
"What's up, Alma?"
"Nothing much, I just came to talk to you and Alex. Is he home?"
"Uh, no. He left a little while ago, sorry," he coughed out.
"Oh, then I guess I'll tell him when I see him during first block. I'll tell you now anyways."
"Okay, go right ahead then," he opened the door to let me pass through.
I walked in to feel a slight breeze though I was inside now. I rubbed my arms to keep the goosebumps at bay. I turned around to see Luke standing nearer than socially aloud in The Commonwealth. I take a step back to keep from violating the rules. I look up to see Luke staring right back with a look of awe flashing through his face then dissappear ing into nothing but a stare of boredom.
"Well? Are you going to start or are you going to just stand there?"
I shook my head to disagree with his statement. I began speaking as if he hadn't said anything at all.
"I wanted to talk about Sebastian. I just wanted to know why he had the audacity to "kidnap" me in the first place and why me specifically?" I said, using my first two fingers on each hand to represent quotation marks.
"One, stop using big words to make you seem smarter than you actually are. Two, because he doesn't like us. And third, because you're, how do I say this without being rude? Oh well let's just say a failed experiment that he was ordered to destroy."
"Am I the only one? Wait, scratch that, who's "us"?"
"Ah, the big question. "Us" well lets just say we dont know all of eachother but we contain of you, Alex, two others, and I.
"Also which failed experiment? And why does Sebastian want to destroy us so bad?"
"To put it simply, bad products equals The Brotherhood wanting to recall the failures. I won't get too deep into this because you aren't supposed to know at all. You're supposed to be clueless just like the rest of them or "us". But don't te--"
We heard a loud creak at the top of the stairs. I looked up to see none other than Alex. I thought Luke said he wasn't home?
Alex continues is descent down the stairs. I walked further into the unit to find a gaping hole in the wall of the living room. I gasped when a sudden strong breeze swept through the room, leaving me to have goosebumps sprawled all over my arms when I feel a warn palm being placed at the small of my back. I turn my head to see Luke looking at the hole proudly as if it was an accomplishment.
