That evening, the Doctor and McKenzie were sitting in the doorway to the TARDIS, watching the Star Whale come to save the humans as the solar flares hit. "Are you all right?" the Time Lord asked, putting his arm around her shoulders as she leaned into his side.
"Yeah," she smiled, glancing up at him. "I should have known earlier about the Star Whale."
"It's not your fault," the Doctor frowned.
McKenzie shook her head. "I knew it was kind before we got to Liz's rooms, let alone the Tower of London."
"What do you mean?"
"Pietro was right," she admitted, shrugging. "I recognised it. I could feel its presence in my mind, and I recognised the feel of it. Very old, and very kind, and the very last. I could hear its pain and it was - it was like they were torturing you."
The Doctor hugged her to him, his lips brushing her hair. "Hey, don't worry. I'm not going anywhere."
She chuckled, turning to smile up at him. "You better not. We're outnumbered now. I can't look after six kids on my own."
He blinked. "Six? When did that happen? Was I asleep?"
"No!" McKenzie laughed. "At least, I hope you weren't asleep at our wedding!"
At this, he understood. "Right, so Zosia and Steve, I can get behind that, that makes three, Sam's four. Five and six must be... Pietro and Wanda?" He touched his hand to his forehead, rolling his eyes. "Of course, because of Zoë."
She grinned. "I'm glad you see it, too." They kissed briefly, looking up as the Earth was engulfed in fire, the Star Whale flying Starship UK out of harm's way. "It's beautiful," McKenzie breathed.
"You've started a trend," the Doctor muttered, making her blush.
"Shut up," she giggled, the pair of them turning as Pietro ran in.
"Sorry," he apologised, grabbing a denim jacket off the jump seat. "Zoë wanted this."
"Pietro?" the Doctor called, and the man came closer, looking at him expectantly. "With the knowledge that if you hurt her, my wife will likely lacerate you, we just wanna say, go for it."
Pietro blinked, blushing slightly. "You mean...?"
McKenzie smiled. "Yes. There is no one I'd rather see her with, knowing how happy you make her."
"I make her happy?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.
"Definitely," the Doctor agreed. "So, in the nicest possible way, leave us alone and go and do it some more."
"Well," Pietro smiled, saluting, "guess I can't ignore an order."
