"Y'all had two large chocolate shakes?" The ghetto ass Whataburger cashier, with her lacefront pulled too close to her forehead asks, as she opens the window.
"Yea, thank you." Rico says as he grabs the drinks and hands them to me.
"Yaaassss!" I moan at how good they look.
"I'm mad Whataburger makes you moan like that. That's my job ain't it?" He says with his face twisted up.
I burst out laughing and roll my eyes. A pile of napkins hit my forehead out of nowhere.
"Every time you roll em I'll have something for your chocolate ass." He says straight faced as I picked up the napkins and threw them back at him playfully.
"Aye aye, sir." I joke giving him a sorry salute. He sucks his teeth.
"Eww, why are you always so serious?" I ask him ,popping the straw into my mouth.
"I don't know Ess, that's just how I am. Why you so goofy?" He pinches my cheek.
"Because , that's just how I am." Now it was his turn to roll his eyes.
"You a mess, you look good without makeup by the way. Usually when I touch you that greasy brown shit gets on me." He says. I just shake my head.
"It's called foundation, but thank you anyways." I smile.
He stares at me for a second before he pulls back on the interstate, headed for the studio. My fav song of the moment As I Am by H.E.R. comes on.
"I looooovvee this song." I say.
"Oh yea?." He nods.
He was texting away on his phone tonight. I pretend not to notice but my bipolar side is taking a peek. I take another sip of my shake and moan again while in ice cream heaven, knowing my ass is lactose intolerant.
"Fatty." He mumbles.
"You like it." I say seductively.
He smirks and raises a brow "Are we talkin' about the same thing?"
"I don't know, are we?" I say still trying to play sexy but I start laughing again at how lame I sounded.
"Ha! You can't keep up with me, I thought I taught you that earlier?" He says cockily. I turned my head towards the window as I felt an eye roll coming on.
We made it downtown and it was gorgeous this time of year, especially at night. The bold, twinklng and festive Christmas decorations lit up the area. Couples strolling the sidewalks hand in hand and the multiple food vendors send the most amazing aromas into the air. Christmas music was playing and I suddenly remember I'll be spending it without mommy. I take a deep breath and exhale slowly trying not to have an attack as we pull up to a parking garage.
"Ayyye , wassup lil cuzzo, how was the honeymoon?" Rico asks a tall, light skinned nigga with dreads as we reached the ticket box.
"Maaan, it was lit in Dubai cuz!" The guy responds.
"I told yall, but aye , this is my girl Essence, Essence this is my cousin Kharif." Rico introduces us.
"Hi, nice to meet you." I wave.
"Likewise." Kharif smiles. "Y'all go on through I'll text you later my nigga."
"Aight." They dab each other up.
We swerve around the corner and he finds a parking spot. I put my Ivy Park jacket back on and he was texting away on his phone again. I clear my throat slightly annoyed. This lil game has happened before so I feel an attitude coming on.
