JACK JOHNSON POV

I couldn't believe it. How the world could become so dark, so lonely, so confusing in just one second. How someone could always be there for you one day, then completely gone forever the next.

I picked up the crumbled piece of paper I dropped on the floor earlier and looked the the words it wrote.

I laughed at how ironic her words her. I wondered did she have any idea that this all was going to happen.

Suddenly I could feel the anger in my veins.

Buzzzz! Buzzzz!

I looked at the screen of my phone..."Gilinsky", it read.

I threw my phone at the wall, hard, causing it to break.

I didn't want to talk to anyone. All I wanted was her. I never knew how much she meant to me until it was over.

FLASHBACK

I sat quietly in the car as Mary drove us home.

I could feel my lips feeling dry as I dreaded what was coming next.

I knew how bad it'd be if I were to keep dragging this along. I needed to tell her that the spark wasn't there, I can't keep going on like this.

Suddenly she stopped the car.

We sat there in silence for what seemed like forever.

Finally, Mary turned towards me and handed me a folded sheet of paper.

As I unfolded the sheet of paper, my world went dark.

I opened my eyes, my head pounding.

"Sir, sir? Are you okay? Do you know where your are?" an EMT asked me.

"Uhh, my name is Jack. What happened?"

"You were in an accident, sir."

Accident?

"Where's Mary?"

"Sir, calm down."

Calm down? What the hell?! I stood up and looked around. I saw Mary's car, which was a wreck, but no Mary.

I continued to look until I saw a lump under a black sheet.

The worst or the worse thoughts came into mind.

"It can't be." I whispered to myself.

"Sir, you can't be near here. SIR!" I heard a man in uniform call.

I ran to the sheet and uncover it. It was Mary.

PRESENT

What happened next was too much to handle.

When I finally made it back home, I remembered the paper Mary gave me before it all happened.

I opened up the folded paper and looked at the one line it wrote..."If you leave me, I'll die...".
