A Plan

"What do we do now? Do we go to the Yellow Kingdom to ask one of their prophets?" Meya began ranting on asking what we should do, ending up putting down every idea she got.

"Maybe we should go find a map of the Black kingdom, it was indefinitely the Black kingdom. We should find the place on a map and go there." Tsubasa started going on his own rant and paused, remembering what really happened in the dream. "And do the exact opposite as we did. Entrap the shadow.-"

"The light only filled in after we trapped the prince. The location might not be the same" Inga cursed under his breath.

"I was about to get to that. I have a plan to get him in sight before he can retaliate." I replied

"And how will we go about that." Inga inquired

"We will have our ways, my friend." I crossed my arms smugly.

"Like." He crossed his arms.

"We go back to a different White city and learn some basic illumination spells." I put my chin up. "Check and Mate."

"We are probably wanted throughout the whole kingdom. Besides they only have one major city, all the students go to the Upper city by the castle, It's like a reverse maximum security prison." Inga said, "No one gets in without proof of citizenship." He got me there, but. . .

"Let's do a prison break...In...Out?"

"Break out I think." Inga decided.

"Let's do it." Meya clenched her fist.

"Ok, the objective is to get into the White city compound in the upper city." We stood around a table with a hologram-like setup, a Red tactician was telling us a plan he had created, "Infiltrate a class and learn a total illumination spell."

"OK, what's our intrusion route? Extraction point?" Tsubasa had his hands crossed on his chest.

"We will start a distraction at the west end while you go into the north door. The sewers are not a glamorous route especially in white clothes."

"I'll be able to fix that," Meya piped up, she had otherwise been silent. "If I lead the group I could conjure a path, and if Inga stays at the back, he can destroy the path as he goes, to leave no traces, or any of you can. If you want" she looked up at Tsubasa and me.

"I agree with you, but I'm not sure Iris or I can rid of it without leaving traces." Tsubasa reasoned.

"Yes, Inga you're at the back. It's the best option." Meya confirmed.

We planned further into it, from tomorrow night when we would go and a week or so later when we would leave the city. We spent the rest of that day and the next creating and mastering aliases. I would be Aria de Kaarslicht, Tsubasa would be Luca si Angela, Meya insisted on the name Ur Alzack, Inga chose to be Osyrus Jupiter. We started calling each other by our aliases to get used to them.

••••

"Time to go." Thea, the tactician, walked into our room. Luca and Osyrus are waiting by the gates."

"Yes, ma'am." It was a short walk through the empty streets of Red. We caught up with the boys at the towering south gates.

"Hello, Aria and Ur. Looks like we'll be classmates." Tsubasa greeted us.Inga sat, looking unamused and in character. Luca si Angela was a kind and easy to talk-to-person who liked eating food. Osyrus Jupiter was a silent kid, very silent. Ur was given a purse with some currency and proof of residency. A manhole that would barely fit any of us had been pried open.

"In ya go." I gestured Tsubasa to the manhole. He shrugged and hopped into the hole. He raised his arms and went in cleanly. Inga and Meya followed. I walked over and called down. "How far is it down."

Meya's head poked out. "Not too far. We have a bit of headroom." I noticed she had conjured a wooden path. I jumped down. I landed on my left knee and my white pants ripped.

"Shoot." I cursed and stood up.

"Bang. I'll fix that." Meya bent down and placed her hand on my knee. I felt the denim fixing itself.

"Thank you, Ur." Meya got up and cut ahead of Tsubasa. We got walking. Inga slowly made the path disappear behind him.

We kept walking till we hit a junction.

"What now?" Meya asked.

"Red was straight ahead from Blank City, so straight," Inga said.

"Say, I don't think that Osyrus Jupiter would talk at a moment like this or any moment for that matter." Tsubasa laughed. "But you're right, we shall continue."

"Yes, le-." Inga started, just to be cut off by myself.

"Jupiter's don't talk." I smiled. He nodded and continued straight.

We walked for a few more hours and reached a dead end.

"Up?" I questioned.

"Yes," Tsubasa replied. I drilled upwards.

We ascended in an alley.

"Anyone need help up?" I asked down the hole. Instead of an answer I had three heads pop up out of the hole. "Evidently not," I filled in the hole and it looked untouched.

"They said they have a spy on the inside" Tsubasa ran over our options. "I say we go to the inn they told us about."

"What was it called again?" Meya asked, "It has to be the only inn in town, right."

"I think it's called the Abyad Inn. Yes, I guess. We'll have to keep a really low profile. These people are unfamiliar with foreigners, and I'm not saying people from other continents, or even kingdoms, rather outside of these walls, everyone there is an inferior foreign person." Tsubasa spoke already as if he lived here.

"I know what you mean." I sighed, "Wait, inferior. Ohh, wait till we kick their sorry bu-"

"Aria, I believe the response is a chuckle or an 'oh yes, those inferiors.'" Tsubasa corrected me. "You are a White. You are above all else. Especially the non-shades."

"I suppose you are right. Luca, now it would be befitting of you to take my arm and walk with me to the inn." I hooked my arm around his. "Inga and Meya. I believe it would be so for you as well." I smiled and we left the dark alley.

The long road was filled to the brim with people wearing pale colours of all sorts. There were pans out that had intricate designs on them, which I assumed symbolized what the shop was for. We walked past quaint bakeries that made Meya's nose clench. She had to have been reminded of home by that. I saw a mannequin in a pale blue and orange dress. I looked around. We were out of place here. Nobody had plain white clothes. People were turning to stare. An officer dropped his smile and left a mass of small children to come to us.

"Credentials, please." He demanded with a low, guttural growl.

"I hardly believe that's necessary, but if you require them." Meya took a folder from her bag. "I believe those are what you are looking for."

The officer looked them over. "Very well," He smiled and turned to me "you must be Aria. I got mail from my cousin that a friend of hers would be moving here. Aria, she said, Aria de Carslight."

"Oh yes. But my name is de Kaarslicht. It's from an old language used in the days before magic. Dutch, I believe in the Somaré continent. You know where I am talking about. Yes?"

"No, actually I do not. Somaré is where the old Asia is. Tonuit is where you are thinking of. Old Europe."

"Oh yes, please excuse my poor geography skills." I knew the others were getting restless. "Well, I must be off. Farewell."
