It was still dark out, and the the stars shined brightly in the sky. Adira cling on to Ammon, fighting to keep herself asleep. She would have succeeded if he himself did not have a nightmare. She woke up with confusion as she watched as Ammon started to breathe heavily and twist slightly back and forth.
"I'm sorry-I-I don't know why." He mumbled under his breath. Adira reached up and cradled his face with her hand as she tried calming him down. Wiping a tear from his face, she shook him gently. It was better, in her opinion, to wake him than to let him suffer. He jolted up slightly and looked at her.
"What did I say?" He asks. She looked at him with a soft smile.
"You were apologizing about something. Is everything okay Ammon?" She says. He sits up with a sigh.
"It was just a dream. Why were you awake?" He mumbles as he rubs his eyes.
"Just a dream. You know, a friend once told me talking about your dreams helps get rid of them." She says in a playful tone. He smiles, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her down so she was laying on top of him.
"I'll tell you if you tell me." He tells her. She smirks as she curls up closer to him.
"Fine. What was your dream about?" She asks. He shakes his head.
"I believe I asked first." He says, almost frantically. She sighs and repositions herself so she could look up at the stars instead of his eyes.
"I was at the Viper base, in a room identical to the one I was kept in a few months ago. Mikael came in and started taunting me about something. He was torturing me, but this time he was getting...a little too close. He started forcing himself on me, I-I fought back, but he was too strong. That's when you woke me up." She says. He knew she was leaving out some big details. but he didn't want to push her too much for them. She already told him more than she usually does.
"Okay, I guess it's my turn. We we in a room together, laying like we are now, but you were sleeping. The air got colder and I saw a silhouette in the door. It was Jalila. I don't know how, but it was. She started screaming about how unfair it was that I turned her in, but not you. She accused me of never loving her, and loving you more. Then, just when I thought it was over, she ran over to us and-" His voice cracked. Adira grabbed his hand tightly and looked up to him.
"And?" She asks softly. Pulling her closer to him, he looked into her comforting eyes.
"She tried to cut your head off, like I did to her. You woke me up before I could she if she succeeded." He says quietly. Adira closed her eyes with a sigh. He still feels guilty about Jalila, and Adira thinks he always will.
"It'll be okay Ammon. What you did is in the past, and it will stay there forever. We can't let things like this cost us sleep." She says, referring to both their dreams.
"I know. Come on, Let's try to get some sleep." The two readjust into a more comfortable position before drifting off again.
