The doors swung open, catching Adira and Nizam's attention. A small, nervous-looking guard walked in.
"Sir, ma'am, we have a security problem." He stuttered out. Adira sighed, turning to him. The young guard looked terrified being in their presence.
"Security issues are reported to Jabari. If he sees that they are of importance, then he will tell us." She said softly. The guard gulped and nodded.
"I did tell him, ma'am. He told me to come here." He said quickly.
"What is the issue?" Nizam said, quickly losing patience. They had much bigger issues to attend to, and not a lot of time to do it. The guard stepped forward.
"There's a man outside our gates. He doesn't look Scorpion, and he's trying to get in. Jabari wants your permission to send someone out to investigate."
A man outside the gates, trying to get in. This has never happened before. Vaham was hidden so that even a passerby would never guess its existence. If someone was looking for an entrance, they must know it was here. This thought made Adira uneasy.
"I'll go out." Adira said quickly.
(filler)
After going through the labyrinth of the entrance, Adira reached the opening to the cave. Carefully, she peeked around the corner to see if she could find the man the guard spoke of. The mysterious man was pacing back and forth near a small fire and tent that he had set up. After a few minutes of pacing and talking loudly to himself, the man sat down in front of the fire, which illuminated his face. She recognized him in an instant: it was Ammon.
Although she knew it was a bad idea, she went out to him. She had to know why he was here, and why he was trying to find the entrance to Vaham. As she approached, she could tell he was restless. He was intensely focused on the flames in front of him and the egyptian words he was saying under his breath to even notice her. Even as she stood in front of him, he kept his focus on the flames.
"Ammon." She said. The sound of her voice quickly caught his attention, and he looked up to her in amazement.
"Adira," he looked at her with wide eyes, "is that really you?"
Slowly, she walked around the fire towards him. She could tell something was wrong with him, but she didn't know what.
"Why are you still here? Why haven't you moved on to Rabat?" She asked gently. He looked down guiltily.
"I couldn't leave. Not without knowing you were safe."
She sighed and looked down. Part of her was touched that he wanted to make sure she had made it home safely, but she also knew that if something had happened, his end of the vow would have been broken. Whichever part was true, she couldn't let him find the entrance to Vaham.
"Ammon, my people are wary of your intentions. As far as they know, you are an enemy trying to get in. You-you can't stay here." She told him. He took a step towards her and grabbed one of her hands.
"I'm sorry Adira. I didn't mean to cause trouble. I just-" He stopped himself, almost not knowing what to say. Adira tilted her head.
"Just what?"
Ammon looked down and let go of her hand. "Just wanted to make sure I didn't break my vow."
Adira shook her head and took a step back. She felt stupid, letting that one part actually believed he cared.
"Well, you kept your vow." She grabbed the small sack of money and threw it at him, "here is everything I promised. And, I release you from your vow. If the vow and the money were the only reason you stayed here, then you'll be gone by morning. If there's another reason you're too scared to admit to me, then you'll wait here until I return with permission to let you into the city."
And with that, she left him there alone in the desert night.
(more filler stuff to get me to morning)
She looked out into the open desert. There were no traces of the fire or Ammon's camp. He was gone. Adira closed her eyes and took a deep breath. It was foolish of her to think he had stayed for any other reason. Just as she turned to start walking back, someone entered the cave.
"Come on Ra, you didn't really think it is that easy to get rid of me, did you?" Ammon said, full of energy. Adira smirked as he approached her.
"You stayed. Are you going to tell me why?"
He smirked at her. "Nope. Come on, let's go."
This is absolute trash cause I straight up typed it instead of hand-writing then physically writing but hey, you get the rough draft, sneak peek, very basic, unedited plot. I dare you to guess what the vow was, and why/when he made it. Last thing, this was weird to write because I know he is head over heels for her, and she doesn't know that, and she kinda likes him, and he doesn't know that. Idk I've only written where they both hate each other and where they both love each other so this was weird.
Other note, Jabari is Rafid's fighting partner after Natara is exiled.
