"Adira? Are you in there?" Jasir called, knocking on the door. Her eyes widened as she pushed Ammon away.

"Don't come in. I thought I told you not to disturb us." She said. She sat up, leaving Ammon lying alone.

"You need to see this." He told her. She shook her head with s sigh. Whatever was going on, it must be important for him to be bothering her this late at night. She slipped out of the bed and grabbed her daggers. Knowing Ammon would follow her shortly, she opened the door to see Jasir pacing back and forth.

"I hope I didn't interrupt anything." He said.

"You did-"

"not interrupt anything. What do I need to see?" Adira said, keeping Ammon in check.

"I think it would be better if you just saw it." Jasir told her as he started walking towards the council-room. She looked to Ammon before the two followed after him. The building seemed empty and haunted, like the spirits there were displeased. There were hushed whispers growing louder as they grew closer to the room. That, and the sound of a fight. She instantly rushed to the scene and pushed Rafid off the man he was wailing on. Rafid was full of rage, and refused to stop. He tried pushing past her, but she refused to let him continue.

"Rafid, back down." She yelled. He stared down at her and started to calm.

"This man deserves worse than what I'm doing to him." He growled.

"I'll be the judge of that." She turned to face the man Rafid had been beating. His hood covered his face, but not the blood dripping down. She knelt down so she could be face to face with him.

"What's your name?" She asked gently, reaching to remove his hood. He flinched at her touch, causing her to retreat her hand.

"What is your name?" She repeated. He gave her no response.

"The big bad guy won't hurt you, I promise. Just tell me your name." She said sternly, but caring enough to not sound villainous. He dropped his hood. The entire room froze in shock.

"Nizam." She gasped. He bore the mark of a high traitor; it made him look old and decayed.

"Adira-" She quickly cut him off with a powerful punch to the jaw and rose so he had to look up to her.

"How did you get here? Who knows you're here?" She yelled with a calm rage. Everything she had built, everything she was fighting to protect from the Society was at risk. She wasn't going to just let it burn. A woman and her two children step forward from the crowd.

"We brought him here, Phoenix." The mother said. It seemed like she didn't know whether to be afraid of Adira, or relieved that she had made it to the haven.

"Why?"

"He-he saved our lives." The young girl told Adira. Adira took a step towards the girl and knelt down in front of her and her brother.

"Did he now? Well, what are your names?" Adira said softly.

"I'm Karim, and that's my sister Maryam." The little boy answered. Adira smiled at the children.

"Welcome home Karim and Maryam. You'll be safe here, I promise." She said, causing the children to smile. Adira stood and faced Jasir.

"Bring the children and their mother to a vacant home please." Jasir nodded and guided the family out. Everyone stood in silence as the four walked out of the room. The silence lingered on long after they left until Nizam finally had the courage to speak.

"Adira, no one knows I'm here. I swear."

"You're a fool for coming here Nizam. What made you think that I was going to be okay with this? That I would show you any type of mercy?" She snapped. He looked away from her.
