Wings

    We laid there for a couple hours... I wanted to stay there forever but I knew we had to get home. The rain stopped but the scent of rain was still there. Steven was looking over the cliff at the top of the hill. I walked over to him so we could start walking back but he said to wait a moment. He lead me to the middle of the field away from the picnic shelters.

"You can't tell anyone about this," he said as wings—they looked like fairy wings—sprouted out of his back. I just gasped in shock not believing what I saw.

They were long, black and blue wings that made me stare in wonder.

"Come on we need to get back."

"OK but where should I be?" I replied confused.

Suddenly he picked me up bridal style which made me very close to his face. I just looked away and blushed.

"What are you anyway?" I asked still trying to piece together what just happened.

"You see I'm a demihuman fairy... a Water Nymph to be exact." He said casually like this was a normal question for him.

I didn't respond because I was still in awe.

Suddenly Steven pointed and said, "Look Anthony a rainbow!"

It was beautiful and I felt like I fell into a movie; this whole thing felt so surreal.

Suddenly he started flying down to the ground and a strong breeze started blowing in my face.

"Hold on to me!" He yelled over the breeze.

I didn't hesitate and wrapped my arms around his neck. After a few minutes we finally made it the ground and suddenly it went dark.

Later

Slowly I opened my eyes to see my ceiling. Was I dreaming? I had to be. I was so confused. I heard the door open and I looked over. Steven was coming towards the bed.

"You're finally awake, I was worried." Steven said while sitting down on the edge of the bed.

Before I could think I blurted out, "Are you really a fairy?" Oh no he's gonna think I'm crazy.

He just laughed and responded, "Yeah I am that wasn't a dream."

"I can't believe my cr- my friend is a fairy."

He turned his head with a smirk and said, "What were you going to call me?"

"Uh uh n-nothing." I stuttered.

"Sureeee." He said then leaned over and kissed me.

My face turned red as a tomato and I just stared at him. He smiled and got under the sheets on the other side of the bed.

What even are we? I thought as I fell back asleep.
