Chapter Five
Eleanor's Pov~
A Few Days Later...So, everything had been going fine, even though the bad news with the vampires. Mark and I have been spending more time getting to know each other since we might have to get married soon. I mean I do want to marry him one day just not now I'm only 21.
Then, Kara came to us with worse news. The witches are seeing the struggle with the werewolves and are planning to attack us.
Finally, even though all this bad stuff is going on, Mark asked me out on our first date. He told me it would take our minds off things and we could just have a good time and be a couple. It is something I've wanted since I first met him, I wouldn't call it love at first sight. I mean it wasn't. There was just always this feeling I had for him. Only when I first shifted and he lost the girl who tricked him into thinking they were mates, did I realized we were mates.
So, Kara decided she would fill me in on what Mark was like when he was out in the real world before I go on the date. I guess it's better then waiting forever.
"Ok, this is something Mark would never admit to anyone. Whenever he even looks at what life is life outside of his pack house... he throws up." She said.
"Are you serious?" I laughed.
"Yeah." She nodded. "He just thinks it's sickening."
"Why?" I asked.
"Ever since he lost his parents, he always thought the world outside the pack is a place of hatred and loss." She shrugged.
"What's your relationship with him?" I asked.
"We're just friends don't worry about it." She smiled. "I understand the importance werewolves finding there mates. I've never stood in his way."
"Ok, that makes me feel better knowing that." I smiled.
"Another thing about Mark, don't make him angry. I'm sure you've seen what he's like, but it's worse away from a place he is familiar with. You get Mark, not Lupus. Trust me, Mark is much worse then his wolf." She sighed. "He's trying to control it, but he can't. I'm afraid he never will."
"I'm sure that's not true. He just needs time." I said.
"Time is all his ever had! I'm sure he's told you how he has come back from the dead multiple times." She frowned. "But what he has mentioned is that he isn't the only one."
"There is a lot he hasn't mentioned." I muttered.
"Well, you need to put the sadness away, just as I will stop making you sad. Tonight is just for you and him to enjoy each other's company." She smiled.
"Yeah." I smiled.
...
"Eleanor, what's on your mind?" Mark asked. He wrapped his arm around me as we sat in the cold.
"A lot of things are on my mind." I sighed. "There are just so many things... people need me to make choices, I barely know anything about you, and there is a war that could happen at any moment. Plus, we are the only ones who can stop it."
"You're not the only one with struggles." He growled. "My family hates me, I'm always needed to guard you, and you are always so hard to get along with!"
"Oh, I'm hard to get along with!" I said. "You're the one with a wolf that either hates me or is a bit fond of me. Can't you learn to control him!"
"I can't do this right now. You are so dramatic!" He grumbled.
He got up and started to walk away, but turned around one final time. "I'm done protecting you."
And with that he left me. I stood up and kick some snow to get my anger out. He is so frustrating sometimes. I know I started it, I'm to blame. Sometimes... I miss my old life.
