"Itachi-sensei, where are we going?" Naruto asked. They'd been walking for just over an hour now and Itachi hadn't said a word.

Itachi glanced at Naruto. "Lightning country. My friend died and his father is too old to take care of my friend's son. He's not in a ninja village, and his bloodline is thought to be extinct, in essence he is like you with the Hiraishin. He has whats known as Swift release. I'll let you see it though." Itachi replied. "We're making pretty good time, would you like to learn something to entertain you on the road?"

"Hell yeah!" Naruto yelled, getting Itachi to stop.

Itachi escorted Naruto over to a lake and closed his eyes, obviously gathering chakra. "This jutsu is a test among Uchiha to see if they're ready to become Shinobi. It's a C-class Fireball Jutsu variant, known as Great Fireball. Get good enough and you won't even need handsigns, watch. Fire style: Great Fireball!" A massive torrent of flames exploded from Itachi's mouth, taking the shape of a massive ball and slamming into the water.

The fire was so intense that the water turned to steam on contact and bubbled violently as it started to boil. Itachi showed the awed Naruto the necessary handsigns and sat down, content to watch the young jinchuriki.

Naruto didn't gather chakra, opting to do the handsigns and go. Instead of a massive ball of fire, a small amount of smoke shot out, making him cough.

Itachi chuckled, realizing the problem. "Mold your chakra, use the oxygen in the air as fuel, heat it up, then release."

Naruto nodded. This time a bigger poof of smoke came out. Naruto cursed and tried again...and again...and again...

Itachi activated his sharingan and began flooding chakra into his eyes, they began to glow and the three tomoe circled his pupils. He was trying to force his mangekyo sharingan to activate, but not having much luck. He knew he'd never kill anyone he loved for the power, but that kind of power could help him protect the village.

They maintained this for several hours before Itachi felt Naruto's chakra spike. He glanced over and saw a flame coming from Naruto's lips. It wasn't anywhere as big as Itachi's but it was certainly impressive for his age.

Naruto cancelled the jutsu and fell to one knee breathing heavily.

"Very good Naruto, now that you can use the jutsu, we will be working on your chakra control. Ever hear of the tree walking exercise?"
_________3 weeks later___________

Itachi pushed open the door of a burned house. "Shiro! I'm here."

An old man was sitting in a chair with a blanket in his lap and a young boy beside him.

"This is Asuka?" Itachi asked, getting a nod from the old man.

The boy couldn't have been more than seven or eight. He had brown hair and green eyes that seemed to focus on everything in front of him.

"The Swift release is already showing itself. Yesterday he traveled ten yards faster than I could see..." The old man coughed heartily into his palm, blood flecks coming through.

Itachi nodded. "The Swift release is killing you." It wasn't a question but the old man answered anyway.

"The Swift release is a double edged sword, similar to the mangekyo sharingan. Using it increases your speed to inhuman levels, but it's very draining and can do irreparable damage to the human body. The amount adrenaline it shoots through you to even see while you use it is enough to kill a man. Not to mention the damage it does to your muscles over long periods of use." Itachi nodded at the old man, then closed his eyes. When he opened them again he asked the man something really important.

"How long do you have?"

The old man smirked. "Two months ago, the doctor gave me one week... I'm on borrowed time already. I'm going to use swift release to rub myself into oblivion."

Itachi nodded. "I fought your son in the war, we became fast friends and I will miss him every time I look at your grandson. I'll let you say your goodbyes." Itachi turned, then placed a hand on Naruto's shoulder. "Let's go, Naruto-kun..."

Itachi escorted the young blonde outside and told him. "Naruto. Practice the Fireball Jutsu. In a moment you'll have a new training partner."

Naruto nodded, walking over to the small pond outside the old man's house.

Naruto was going through hand seals and practicing for a few minutes when he felt a burst of vibration and heard a BOOM.

Looking back he saw Itachi holding the young boy in a hug.

Naruto jogged over, finding that the boy was crying. Itachi looked at Naruto. "We'll go in a few hours. Keep practicing."
