BURNING UP | n i n e
day seven
"mama, wake up."
tawni was woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of her son's voice in her ear, and continuous shaking. she opened her eyes to see lukas with a frown on his lips, and she instantly sat up. "what's up lukas?" tawni asked softly, running a hand through her ten year old's hair.
"something is wrong with dad." lukas said quietly, "he's not eating." "he's probably not hungry lukas." tawni reasoned, but the ten year old shook his head. "he hadn't eaten anything since last night, and when he took a bite of the pancake this morning, he said that it was too bland, whatever that meant." he explained.
"oh no.." tawni mumbled quietly, knowing that there was only one reason why chanyeol was like this — he was sick. she got out of bed and kneeled down to lukas' height. "i'll go check on him, you go back to bed, okay?" she said quietly, earning a nod and a quiet 'okay' from the ten year old before they went their separate ways.
tawni walked down the hallway towards the guest room. she opened the door to find chanyeol laying in the bed, facing the wall.
"chanyeol."
silence.
the younger girl walked over to the bed, placing a hand on chanyeol's shoulder and turned him over. "damn...you're burning up." she said quietly as she placed her hand on his forehead, which was wet and clammy.
chanyeol coughed slightly, his eyes still closed. "tawni, i'm fine." he croaked. tawni rolled her eyes at his words. "cut the bullshit chan," she mumbled, "lukas told me about you not eating, saying that the food was too 'bland'."
chanyeol sighed and opened his eyes, seeing tawni standing over him. "you don't have to worry about me — like i said, i'm fine." he said in korean, his deep voice only deeper because he was sick. tawni crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow.
realizing what he did, chanyeol chuckled, but it was cut short by coughs. he knew that tawni couldn't stand it when he'd talk in korean, since she still had a bit of trouble understandkng the language — though, they've known each other for a while.
"i'm going to get a cold towel." tawni said before walking out of the room, coming back a few seconds later with a wet towel. "scoot." she said while nudging him slightly so she could sit down next to him.
tawni noticed that his shirt was basically soaked from sweat.
"shirt off."
chanyeol blinked. "what?"
"you're going to stay sick if you keep that wet shirt on."he nodded slightly and sat up, taking his shirt off. tawni moved closer to him and began to use the towel to wipe his forehead, then his neck. she hesitated when it came to chanyeol's chest, but wiped it down anyway.
chanyeol watched as she did so, taking notice of how she had that focused look on her face — the one that he was so used to, and found ridiculously cute. tawni finished and looked up to see chanyeol staring at her. "what? is there something on my face?" she asked curiously.
chanyeol shook his head, the ghost of a smile on his lips. "no, there's nothing there." he said quietly. tawni's heart fluttered when she saw the small smile on chanyeol's face. she wrapped an arm around him, that way, chanyeol's head was on her chest.
she ran her fingers through his hair, remembering that it helped him fall asleep quicker. soon enough, the sounds of chanyeol's soft snores filled the quiet void of the room. tawni smiled.
"stay with me." chanyeol mumbled tiredly.
