It was safe to say that I was quite fond of the Potters. From the minute Sirius and I had been greeted at the front door, James' parents had astounded me with their kindness and generosity. The Potter family was extremely wealthy-- James' father had in fact invented a popular potion used in styling hair; but despite their fortune, they were quite humble and down to earth.
Euphemia Potter was a sweet woman who gave wonderful hugs and loved her family more than anything. Warm brown eyes and a bright smile had immediately put me at ease when Euphemia first opened the door. I was sure James had told her of my circumstances as she was careful not to bring up the subject of my mother. As I had discovered a day into our stay, Euphemia was also a brilliant cook. I was convinced the woman could cook blindfolded and the meal would still taste like absolute perfection. But, the best part about Euphemia was her love. She had plenty of her stern yet gentle motherly love to go around and it was accepted with open arms. It was clear that she loved her son despite her teasing and exasperation whenever James broke something around the house. Her love for her husband was clear, and anyone could see the fondness in her caramel eyes as she looked at Fleamont. Her love extended to each of James' friends and it brought a huge smile to my face when Sirius had greeted her with a "Hello, Mum."
Fleamont was a kind man with a mischievous smile that reminded me of James and a sense of humor to match. It was clear which side of the family James had received his trouble-making genes from. Fleamont often played pranks on the household and more often than not, James was the victim. Despite his playful nature, he was also a kind and generous man. When he heard of Sirius' disownment, he had immediately offered him one of the spare bedrooms in the mansion (Which Sirius had politely declined before explaining he was staying with me.) James had confessed to me that his dad always gave him the best advice and it was clear that the two were quite close as they often bantered back and forth. It was also clear that Fleamont loved his wife as he often left little notes and flowers around the house for Euphemia and I had been informed that they had weekly date nights.
And then, of course, there was James. To my surprise, James had greeted me with the biggest hug imaginable, squeezing me until my feet lifted off the ground. Then, I watched as Sirius and James examined each other for a moment before James cracked a smile and wrapped his best friend in a hug. As an only child, James had pretty much anything he could ever want, but he never boasted about it.
I had been at the Potters less than one day and I was already incredibly fond of James' parents. Peter had arrived shortly after Sirius and I, and Remus was due to arrive later that day. James, Peter, Sirius, Euphemia, and I were standing around the kitchen counter, everyone but Euphemia and I looking slightly confused.
"Whisk?" Sirius looked at me with raised eyebrows and I giggled at the other boys' confused expressions.
I sighed, holding up the metal object, "This is a whisk." Euphemia shared an amused grin with me and a small smile pulled up at my lips. "Use it to mix in the dry and wet ingredients," I pointed to the two bowls watching as James dumped the flour mixture in with the milk and Sirius began to stir them together.
"Stop, stop, stop," Peter ordered as Sirius ended up sending the mixture flying. I watched with a smirk as Peter expertly whisked the mixture and carefully poured small circles onto the griddle Euphemia had set out.
"Did you know he could cook?" James asked Sirius, both of them wearing identical flabbergasted expressions.
"No."
One dropped plate that resulted in James shrieking like a little girl and thirty minutes later, we were all crowded around the table eating pancakes, bacon, and eggs.
"I didn't know you could cook, Pete," I commented, taking a sip of orange juice. "You should come to the kitchens with me sometime and we can bake." Peter met my gaze with a shy smile and I grinned widely.
