The days were closing in as Luke's due date came sooner and sooner. The family were hoping they were all set. The basement had been successfully remodeled within a couple weeks, including carpeting, painting, and putting up a privacy wall to divide Luke and Michael's bed from the nursery.

The whole time the wall was being put up Jack grumbled about Luke and Michael never needing privacy again.

After he received Michael hocking a loogie in his water bottle.

Luke was beyond ready to have his babies out of his body. The pressure of the triplets on his narrow hips had him unable to walk on his own anymore. He either had to be basically carried by Michael everywhere. Michael didn't mind, though. It was the least he could do.

A couple days before Luke was scheduled for his c-section Ashton and Calum dropped by with great news.

Tears formed in both Luke and Michael's eyes as the pair explained what happened. "It can't be true." Luke exclaimed, joy and shock coating his words.

"We wouldn't lie to you guys." Calum said, grinning from ear to ear.

"Xander really got busted." Ashton smiled. "Even though the media frowns upon our kind it's still illegal to experiment on and torture any living creature."

"How did authorities find out?" Michael asked.

"An anonymous tip from a certain veterinarian."

"Why does Frank care so much about us? I'm grateful that he does, but why?" Michael asked.

"You'll have to ask him about that." Ashton said, sorrow filling his voice.

So, Luke and Michael did. Iero made a home visit the night before Luke;s due date just to check in and make sure everything would be okay.

Frank got quiet when the question left Luke's mouth. He began scratching at the top of his head. Luke momentarily panicked until Frank spoke.

"Well, I know you guys are aware that the mutation first started surfacing around 40 years ago."

The couple nodded.

"When I was younger I befriended a boy that lived in my neighborhood, or so I thought. He was a few years older than me and every time I saw him he had on the same hat. We were young. I was nine and he was thirteen when I saw him without his hat for the first time. We were playing tag in the snow out in my front yard when I tackled him and his hat came off. In all the soft swirls of dark hair there were two little white ears stuck on top of his head. My mother, who had been watching us from the window immediately called me in. I didn't understand at the time what the problem was. I wasn't allowed to see him again. Whenever I'd ask my parents why they would tell me that I shouldn't associate with his kind. When I was eleven I heard on the news that a male, teenage, hybrid had been found dead on a park bench. Report said he had died from an untreated sickness. I later found out that it was my friend."

He stopped to gather his thoughts and breathe for a few seconds.

"I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't let another hybrid die from not being allowed proper health care. So, I went through med school and veterinary school so I could properly help. I'm gonna have debt until I'm dead but it's worth it knowing that I can help good people like you two."
