[unedited]
Michael felt weird having someone else in the room with him. Over the years he's gotten so used to being alone watching tv that having Luke sitting a few feet away from him watching the tv with him made him feel weird.
"So, what're you here for?" Luke asked, turning away from the screen.
Michael cleared his throat and shifted under Luke's gaze, shrugging his shoulders.
"You don't know? How long have you been here?" Luke frowned.
"Always." Michael mumbled. "I've always been h-here." He clenched his eyes shut when the embarrassing stutter slipped out.
"Seriously?" Luke gasped. "You've never, like, left?"
Michael shook his head, not wanting to talk incase he stuttered again.
"Holy shit, Michael, we've got to get you out of here."
Michael's eyes widened and he turned to face Luke, shaking his head vigorously. "N-No! I-I can't."
"Michael, there's an entire world out there that you haven't experienced." Luke frowned, scooting towards the boy who's ears had flattened to his head. "Don't you want to leave?"
Michael shook his head again. "I-I watch the n-news. Bad th-things happen to my kind." He mumbled, looking down at his hands that fiddled with his soft tail.
Luke nodded, he was right. Hybrids weren't treated right at all. If they were discovered they were looked at with disgust and treated like trash. If they done something an authorities figure didn't like they were sent away to a prison-like hybrid facility.
A silence fell over the room and both boys turned their attention back to the tv. Luke couldn't fully pay attention, he was worried about how he was gonna get out of this place. He didn't even know how long he'd been there. The healing scar stretched out across his lower stomach was really worrying him. There was no way he could ever know if they'd removed or added something to his body.
The clicking sound of someone sliding their keycard in the door startled both boys. Michael pointed to the bed and Luke nodded, quickly laying on his stomach and pushing himself underneath it just in time for an attendant to step in the room.
"Here's your dinner, Michael." She said, walking over and laying the tray on the bedside table.
Michael nodded, letting his eyes dart between her and the ends of Luke's toes that stuck out from under the bed. In attempt to cover it Michael flopped his fluffy tail across Luke's foot. Luke bit his lip to keep from making a sound, Michael's tail tickled.
The attendant lifted the cover to show Michael the not-so-appetizing meal and then left.A relived breath slipped past Michael's lips and Luke shimmied out from under the bed, wincing at the pressure it applied to his stomach.
"They bring you food?" Luke asked, Michael nodded. "Do you ever leave this room?"
"Sometimes."
Luke nodded and looked over at the food. "I don't remember the last time I ate, I think they had me hooked up to a feeding tube or something." He mumbled.
Michael couldn't ignore how hungry Luke looked, he never really liked the food. "Y-You can have it. If-If you w-want."
Luke snapped his head to him, "Really?" he asked, already feeling his mouth water. That's how hungry he was.
"Yeah." Michael shrugged, turning back to the tv.
Luke wasted no time darting over to the plate, there wasn't any silverware for the soup but he just shrugged and picked up the bowl. He brought it to his lips and started gulping it down. It felt like he hadn't eaten in weeks.
Michael's nose scrunched up at the sound of Luke slurping down the liquid substance. He didn't know how he was stomaching the gross soup.
The unexpected click of the door threw both boys off guard, along with the attendant stepping in. "Michael, I forgot your spoon-" She froze seeing Luke staring wide eyed at her.
"GUARDS!"
