It wasn't the internship you wanted, but it was what you needed to finish your masters degree. You worked underpaid at an advertisment agency. After six months, they decided to hire you on full term, which meant you had access to employee perks like health care insurance, access to the company parking garage, and invitations to their exclusive parties. You noticed that planning parties were just as important as sealing project deals for some new ad campaign. No party was as important as the office Christmas party however.

Your heels clicked on the polished marble floor as you walking into the building lobby. White Christmas lights were strewn elegantly across the room. You noticed how quiet it was and almost thought you had walked into some twilight zone dimension. It wasn't until you stepped off the elevator and onto the thirty-third floor that you realized why. A burst of loud music practically slapped you in face as the elevator doors opened. It looked as if everyone who worked in the building was on that floor. It was the most spacious and was reserved for executives only. The higher-ups allowing everyone to hold a party on the executive floor was a bit suspicious, but you soon shrugged it off as some familiar face pushed a glass of eggnog into your hands.

It didn't hit you that so many people worked for your company until you saw how crowded the floor was. After finishing the glass, you began looking for your friends. You had a small group of close friends that helped you through the hellish long nights at the beginning of your internship. There was Carol, the nicest girl you had ever met, Tanya, the most charismatic of them all and James. You would call him Jimmy to mess with him. For you, Tanya and Carol, he was your insight into the world of men. Whenever any of you had questions about dating or gifts for the men in your lives, you would all go to him. He was hopelessly lost on how to answer most of the questions, but you threel all relished in his valuable advice.

You soon spotted James leaning against a wall in the midst of a conversation, looking excruciatingly bored. Like a hero with a cape, you walked right up to rescue him.

"Excuse me, boys, but I'm going to have to borrow James here. Only for a moment." You took ahold of James' arm and started pulling him aside.

They winked and made other gestures as one of the men spoke up. "Take all the time you need." By the look on his face, you could tell that they took it the wrong way. First feeling a twinge of confidence, it soon turned into complete embarrassment. You kept your hand on James, but did not dare turn back to see his face. Were his cheeks as red as yours?

As soon as you were a good distance away, you spoke. "I saw you suffering over there and figured you needed a little help." You smiled up at him.

"Yeah, thank you. Nothing like being caught up in boring office banter to make you wonder why you ever left your warm cozy bed." He smirks, gazing back down at you.

"You came because of the free booze and us."

"Is there even any liquor? The last time I tasted the eggnog and punch, they were clean."

You shrug, "Well, there's still us! Speaking of, where is Tanya and Carol." You scan the room, looking for the familiar faces.

"Hey, I have to tell you something." He says to you seriously. You catch his tone and turn back to him.

           "What is it?"

"I'm your secret santa this year." His cool demeanor soon melted into the James you knew too well as a smile crept up on his face.
