You hadn't seen him in forever, so what were the odds that you'd bump into him the other day? You just spotted him out of nowhere as if your brain was a radar, pre-set to find him wherever. And like a shock to the nerve, his head turned and his eyes met yours. He wasn't there for you, but what were the chances his flight would be canceled within the same moments of departing from yours. You stood there like a deer in headlights, while he took the first steps in your direction.

They say high school romances don't last. Nobody wants to hear that when they're head over heels in love, but they are right. For you, it's a hard feeling to explain; believing that he's the one, then no more than two years later, the both of you are going your separate ways. The two of you were convinced that together, you would beat the obstacles that life dealt.

It was more than an ex boyfriend that made you freeze. In fact, he was your first love, your first everything. The way you left the relationship all those years ago, you regretted it. You haven't talked to him in five years, but there he was about to break the silence.

"June." He speaks first. His voice is unwavered by the blast of nostalgia only you must have felt.

"Theo, hi." You try to sound surprised, but he watched you watch him walk over.

"It's been a long time." Theo says casually.

You nod. "Yeah..." You were nervous and apparently one syllable words were all you could manage.

"Five years, right? Well, they've been good to you. You look great."

You break a tiny smile. "Thanks, you too." After the much anticipated awkward silence, he asks you the question you've fantasized hearing him say...if your were to ever see him again. "Do you want to go get some coffee? My flight was just cancelled. There's a major storm passing through the west coast." All you could do was nod in response.

"Get whatever you want, I'm paying. You remember that fancy cafe we went to that one time? You wanted a box of macaroons, but we could only afford a cup of joe."

You smile timidly and nod. "Yeah..."

"Well, now I can afford it."

"You have a job?" You mentally face palm yourself. All of a sudden you could speak and you start off with a stupid question.

He chuckles, bringing out those barely there dimples you used to love. "Yeah, and I worked my butt off to get it too. Five years of college and two years of internships. The hours are kind of long, but it'll get better as I move up in the company. What about you?" The two of you walk into a Tim Horton's at the airport.

"Me? I just work full time at a little clothing shop downtown."

"You still live back at home? I thought you were going to get out that small town."

You shrug. "I haven't been able to leave yet. One day, but not today." He hands you your order. "So you live in Boston now?"

"That's where the job took me. What brings you here?"

You shrug again. "I just wanted to do something spontaneous for once. Life can get so mundane if you don't watch out. Before you know it, you'll be retired and at this point, the only thing I have to show for myself is going back and forth to school and work. I still want to travel. See things, do things."

"That sounds like the June I remember." He smiles at you. "You'll get there soon, I'm sure."
