Hello, my lovelies! (I really need a better name for my readers. Comment with ideas.) Happy Holidays to you all! I had a fantastic Christmas, I got the entire KOTLC series (I only had them as e-books), along with serval new books (Mangus Chase and Ranger's apprentice Prequel series), and some old favorites (Tiger's curse and Artemis Fowl). I also got a new camera and overall I'm very happy! I got to spend Christmas with my sisters and one of my best friends and it was basically the best Christmas ever. So, next chapter! I'll be updating quite a bit in the next week or so, hopefully. Now on with the chapter!! This one is dedicated to Sophitz_KOTLC because, being amazing, you were the first to comment last chapter and you're always nice and supportive in your comments. I love you all, my lovelies!!
Chapter 15:
A sharp edged memory fragment tore through his consciousness, shocking him out of his own musings and into the muddled mess that made up Sophie and Amy's thoughts. Sophie was reading though her recent memories, trying to get to know her sister again when she became aware of his presence. "Fitz? What are you doing?"
"Sophie..."
"I had to,"
"I get it. Just, tell me next time you decide to do something rash."
"You mean stupid."
"I..."
"I'm sorry."
"Sophie, it's fine. But you have to tell me what you're doing for me to have your back."
"Since when are you always calm?"
"You know I'm never... well... almost never mad at you."
"Okay."
"Soph?"
"Yeah?"
"Probe her memories. But don't wake her up."
"Thank you."
"I'll be right here."
With his reassurances contributed, Fitz withdrew from her mind, wondering if it was a mistake to let her read Amy's mind. Within a few minutes, though, Sophie returned to herself, kissing Amy's forehead softly, and then turning. She wrapped her arms around Fitz, letting him hug her as she cried on his shoulder, not for the first time, for her human family.
Sophie gave Fitz a quick kiss on the cheek after he had held her for endless seconds, the kind that dragged from moments to minutes, before turning back to the bed. She sat down on the edge next to her little human sister, and whispered, "Amy? It's me. It's Sophie. Soybean. I'm still here, okay? Don't be scared, be strong, I'll be back. I love you."
But as Sophie wrapped one slim arm around the younger girl's sleeping form, pulling her in for the hug that she had craved, needed, for nearly two years, Amy began to stir. Sophie pulled back, still seated on the edge of the bed. "Amy?"
Sleepily, the girl rolled over and muttered, "Who are you?"
Exchanging a glance with the elf seated on the floor, Sophie transmitted up to Terigan. "I'm not sure how to tell you this but... Amy is awake?"
Less than a minute later, the door swung open again. Sophie was still perched on the edge of the bed, her hand over her mouth, Fitz was pacing along the side of the bed, looking worried, and Amy was muttering, trying to extract herself from her covers, tossing and turning. She wasn;t quite awake, but she definitely wasn't in her deep solid sleep anymore. Physic rushed over tot he girl and, after testing a few things, she looked up. "I can't put her back to sleep until she's completely awake. It could hurt her otherwise. Sophie, Fitz, Terigan, get out. I'm going to bring her back to consciousness, but you can't be here Sophie. She'll see you, and any chance of her not remembering will be gone."
"Right, right," Terigan muttered distractedly, "I'll take them back to Havenfield. Then I'll be back. I might be a bit, I suspect everyone will want an update."
"We'll be fine," Physic said, smiling encouragingly. "Take them home. And Sophie? We'll take good care of our daughter's sister."
Sophie had time to look up and smile warmly at the mysterious woman before Fitz took her by the hand and gently led her out of the room. He pulled her up the stairs, Terigan behind her, and when they reached the top, Sophie opened her mouth to say something, but Terigan cut her off. "It was unavoidable. We knew she would get her memories back sooner or later. It just happened to be sooner. But it will be fine, Sophie."
She smiled and pulled her home crystal out. "Then let's go home. I have a feeling our family has a lot of questions."
