Story Tellers POV
Snow fell from the sky and landed onto the floor accumulating on the ground into small lumps; adding to the packed down snow blanket that already layed across the ground. The sky seemed like a grey giant canvas waiting to be painted on still an almost flawless grey shade.
At a dock three miles from where Hide was racing against time to get to his dying boyfriend there was someone else waking up inside a ship.
Another Kaneki. He had heard these rumors about intertwining universes but he always assumed they were bullshit. Now, however, he could tell something wasn't right.
He woke up once again still in the place he was on before that smelled of salt and was always rocking back and forth and things were simular to when he had fallen alseep but not completely. Things before he fell asleep were dirtier, to be exact the floor and walls now looked tremendously more clean and there was less trash and more light.
That could have just been some strange thing he could have brushed off but the room he was in as a whole looked so simular and yet shaped so different but it was all just little things that had changed.
"God listening to that shit on the radio got to my head now I'm jumping to crazy conclusions," Kaneki thought.
He took a deep breath in and composed himself, "I'm going to do it today I'm going to find a way out," the words circled through his mind until he was able to grasp them completely and have a firm hold on the decision he was making.
After much sneaking around he found his way to a hallway with other people and tried to act normal.
"God I have so many questions like why and how I got here in the first place."
He quickly realized people were getting off of the ship and exited with as much carefulness and speed as he could.
"Okay simple plan, find a pay phone," he checked his pockets and found nothing but an empty wallet, "... Okay and ask somone for money to make a quick call," Kaneki said aloud ignoring the glances from random people.
He did just that and dialed the only number he knew by heart.. Besides Hide's but calling a dead man's phone wouldn't do him any good.
The phone rang once and and then he heard a computerized voice say, "Sorry but phone number is not in service perhaps you typed the wrong number."
"But that is her number I know it is.."
It wasn't until then that he looked around and realized he did indeed know where he was, a city on the coast of Japan Hide and him had moved there before he died. The strange thing was everything was sorta.. Different.
He did have slight amnesia and couldn't remember whatever happened to get him on that boat but it didn't effect what he knew about this town. He knew that something was off but it was so hard to place because afterall, it was just little things.
Like certain buildings were different colors than before and some were differnt shapes or sizes but still mostly the same building and in the same spot. Another thing was the people the clothing trends were different although not much.
His mind kept going right back to the words he over heard on the radio, "Well me and many others have come to believe that our universe may be colliding with one parallel to ours, their are theories people believe, that their are an infinite number of universes all carying different realities-"
"Each reality slightly different than the other.. Or something like that," Kaneki finished.
"Is it true? How do I believe this? Wh-" A woman in a shapless blue dresss tapped him on the shoulder interrupting his train of thought, "Sir are you okay? You've been talking to yourself for a while."
Kaneki looked at her with wide eyes and sprinted away leaving the pay phone hanging phone the wire.
He kept running without stopping his heart racing and racing. He didn't know what to do and he wasn't typically one to act hysterical but he just didn't know what to do. He ran a hand through his raven colored hair with a sigh but kept aimlessly running. Soft flecks of snow fell into his hair and onto his shirt as his legs carried him faster and faster.
It could have been by chance like a lucky draw of the card. Or perhaps you could say it was destiny or even fate if you believe in that. It could have been something in Kaneki's mind burried deep down that led him to this place but either way you look at it he was here.
Standing in the snow outside a building where he heard a unnaturally familar sob and after only being around the slightly familiar he abruptly stopped when he heard something completely utterly familiar. He knew that cry. That was the cry he heard when saying his farewell to his love who was dying.
Kaneki immediately flew open the doors and ran towards the sound. That was when he saw it, he saw his dead lover crying over someone who looked strangely like him. Strangely wasn't the right word maybe something more like unnatural, but in the end he decided neither of those were accurate because this was him.
He looked bruised and bloodied and sheet white like a dead body and his hair was white with almost a silvery feel to it. And that's when things clicked in Kaneki's head and the words he heard the voices on the radio echo through his mind once more.
This was Hide, not the Hide he knew but Hide none the less and that was Kaneki not the him that he was but him none the less except he was dead and that Hide, he was crying over him. So dramatically that he didn't notice him enter and wouldn't hear if he left all he said was a few words that repeatedly flew out of his mouth in a hysterical sense, "I was too late. I was too late. I was too late!!"
The Hide he knew has shorter hair and would never act like this, that is unless he died and Kaneki supposed that he did die or this version of him at least so Hide acting like that was only natural.
The old man with him was mostly kept together but worry was still clear in his features and this old man was aware of his surroundings enough to hear Kaneki enter. Colt's eyes stayed on Kaneki and confusion over came him like a wild fire.
"You.. Look an awful lot," he paused and pointed at the dead Kaneki, "like him."
"I think I am him," was all Kaneki was able to say.
Instincts kicked in and he slid onto his knees and wrapped his arms around Hide who was kneeling over the dead Kaneki which he avoided looking at.
Hide came back to reality and looked at who had their arms wrapped around him only to freeze completely.
"Kaneki. Kaneki from before the incident," he laughed hysterically, "I'M HALLUCINATING NOW!! What is this, what is this mess.."
"You aren't hallucinating," came the sterm voice from behind him.
Hide looked at him and for a moment Kaneki saw the normal soft look Hide always had flicker in his eyes.
Hide stared into Kaneki's eyes and ran a hand through his hair. Tears still streamed down his face and his chin quivered but the hysterical sobbing had stopped.
"I don't know whats happening," Hide muttered, "but I know that I'm tired and cold and upset and confused.. And when I wake up I want an explanation but for now please just.. Take me home."
That was all he said before he slumped into Kaneki's arms and was out just like that, asleep in seconds.
"He must have been through a lot.." Kaneki said sadly.
"Kid, I still need answers"
"Almost forgot about him," Kaneki thought.
"I don't want to explain it twice and I'm not sure if I know myself. I'll tell you what I know when Hide wakes up just give me his adress, I assume you have it but I also want an explanation of what happened to him," a shudder went through him at the thought of the dead version of himself that was right beside him.
"Yeah.. Yes I can do that I have his adress because I helped him get a.. Surgery, " was all Colt said.
