Chapter 19

Story Tellers POV

Colt led Kaneki to Hide's place even though he wasn't sure how long it would be safe. Although Kankei knew little to nothing about this dimension in particular, he did know things well enough to be able to tell that the Kankei from this dimension and Hide must have lived together based on the things in the apartment. 

"Do you happen to know why Hide and um the other me lived together," Kaneki asked unsure of how exactly to get his thoughts across through words. 

Colt responded with, "I don't think it's my place to tell you but the dead Kaneki did tell me a lot about Hide." 

"Could you tell me what you know about him! I mean I don't mean to sound harsh I just figured you must know more about this Hide than I do, you see the Hide in my dimension-" and then Kaneki began to ramble about the Hide he knew and loved. 

"Calm down kid, from what you say the 'Hide from your dimension' and that Hide sleeping over there are the same at least in personality, I don't know what's going on so I don't know what kind of personal experiences they both share and I definitely do not understand this 'other dimension' bullshit." 

Kaneki looked to his feet nervously and his raven bangs slid over his eyes hiding his face from view and said, "I am just nervous, I hardly understand what is happening myself, it feels like I'm getting a second chance to be with the one that I lost but I don't know what I am getting myself into." 

Upon waiting for Hide to wake up Colt and Kaneki talked amongst themselves, Colt told him what he was willing about the now dead Kaneki and Hide and Kaneki told him about the dead Hide from his dimension and then they told each other about themselves.

Kaneki found tea in the kitchen and made some for Colt and him and some for Hide when he wakes up. He was just finishing Hide's cup when he saw Hide shift and start to wake. He immediately went to his side and helped him sit up and come over to the table. Hide looked at him through the blurry vision of just waking up and started to ramble. "Oh Kaneki it's you haha, that must have all been a bad dream oh and what a crazy dream it was, there were these things called ghouls and your hair was turned white that was because of you accepting the ghoul though and you were captured and then.. I escaped and then I saw you dead but then you were still alive but it was the old Kankei and now your here and... wait." Kankei soothingly brushed his fingers through Hide's grown out hair and let out a soft sigh. 

"Hide that wasn't a dream although I think you are realizing that, I have no idea what ghouls you are speaking of so it looks like you and I both have tons of explaining to do," was what Kaneki replied to his ramblings. 

Colt started the discussion before more questions could be asked from Hide, "Okay this what we are going to do, Kaneki is going to explain how he is here and why there are two versions of him then Hide you will explain to him about this dimension which he seems to be unfamiliar with and then I will fill in any gaps that I can, deal?" Kaneki and Hide both said deal and Kaneki started his explanation. 

"Okay I know this is hard to believe but from what I understand there are an infinite number of universes or dimensions each holding a different reality based on the choices people make, for example for every choice a new dimensions created where the opposite choice occurred. This means these different universes can go from being extremely similar to extremely different based on how important the choice was. That is a little confusing so just try and wrap your mind around the more important thing which is that two of these universes collided and some of the people from one universe somehow manifested in the other. I somehow manifested in this universe when the Kaneki originally from this one died, I don't know how or why but it happened and I'm here. Now there's a few things I want to know, you mentioned the dead Kaneki's hair color and his involvement with ghouls as you called them." Kaneki seemed a little out of breath after talking so much and he looked to Hide whos eyes were full of hope.

"Hopeful at a time like this, that's typical of Hide," Kaneki's mind wandered, "How is he so hopeful? Technically he doesn't even know me and the version if me he does know is dead, what if I'm not good enough for him? What he's constantly wishing the old Kaneki would be back, instead of me?"

His mind continued to go on a tangent until Hide started so wave a hand in front of his face, "Uhh Kaneki helllloooo~~ are you inside there??"

"Oh oh what oh I'm sorry Hi, Hi Hide I'm alive haha sorry.. Hi," Kaneki responds a little awkwardly.

"I'll tell my side of everything then," Hide told everyone and they nodded, "Okay here we go from the beginning, you already know this but I'm Hide Nagachika and there's a lot more to me than my name, I fell in love with a boy named Kaneki. At the time his hair was black and he loved to read he was innocent and cute everything I loved and then an accident happened his organ was replaced with that of a ghouls and he turned into a half ghoul. This came as a shock to me but I learned to accept it after all I couldn't stop loving him no matter what. His hair ended up turning white after an incident and he accepted being a ghoul, his personality was changing a bit as well but who doesn't change I told myself it was okay, I tried to stay positive. Then another incident happened and I had no choice but to ask around for where someone could turn me into a half ghoul so I could save Kaneki who was captured, this is how I meant Colt. After that we were two half ghouls surviving together, something that you should know about us ghouls is that we have to eat humans to survive," he looked to Kaneki to check his expression and activated his kagune, "this is my kagune I have it and so do every other ghoul and also my eye which turns red and black when I'm hungry or in danger, somehow I can control mine Kaneki had a bit of trouble with that. Nobody is ever going to be able to tell his story except me, most will either think you are him or that he's dead it's a little sad. I'm coming into this whole thing open-minded and open-hearted, I want to get to know you and I want you to get to know me and if you don't like me, that's okay." He said the last part and flashed Kaneki his signature heart melting smile. And as Kaneki saw it and absorbed up the feeling that came with looking at that smile his heart did melt.

"As you loved your Kaneki I loved my Hide too, and I love to read just like your Kaneki! And I know this will be hard especially for you, I've already delt with losing Hide a while ago so I think I can help you through this. I'm honestly not sure how to feel about the ghoul scenario we'll have to talk more about you eating .. Humans another time, but like you I'm going to be open minded."

Maybe it was because of the smile but Kaneki just couldn't hate Hide for having to eat people.

"He made himself like this for his Kaneki after all, he's clearly a loving person just like my Hide was," Kaneki thought.

Colt just stood back and listened to the stories of the two young lovers, even for a tough-hearted person like him he could admit it truly was something beautiful. He could see the way they looked at each other, the way their eyes sparkled as the other one spoke. "That's what most would call love at first sight, even though if we are being technical they've already met," Colt thought.
