   Unknown Point of View

   Twenty six years ago

Strong whiffs of gun powder filled the dusk air, finding their way into my nose. Fear was creeping its way onto me as I ran like hell, cradling my daughter tight to my chest. She was sleeping soundly as I sprinted my way through this labyrinth of the property. Screams were heard and curses were yelled as I tried to get out.

She needed to be kept safe with me and my husband. Any good mother wouldn't let their child be ripped away from their grasps, even when they're only a new born baby.

I kept running, trying to keep both of us safe from him. I went into the woods behind the estate, keeping my distance from everyone. There was a cabin about three miles from the estate that held all the necessities that we both needed. Jacob told me that he would meet me there in about a day at the latest but with all of this going on, the chances of him getting here in less than a day were unlikely.

My lungs burned but it only gave me more motivation to keep going. The cold air was going in and out of my system as I felt my heart pumping hard inside my chest. As I leaped over a couple branches, there was a small giggle just below me. Smiling while trying to take in breaths, I thought about my little angle just smiling at me with that bright smile. She looked me in and eye and he smile vanished. Then she started to cry loudly.

"Shhh my little one. Please stay quiet for Mommy right now," I comforted as I somehow managed to breathe through to the little one.

A couple more miles of running later and I make it to the cabin. My daughter was sleeping soundly once again, clinging onto me for support.

I shut the thick wooden door and locked it tight while praying that Jacob would come soon. There wasn't any electricity in the cabin but there was a fireplace to have some light and a couple miscellaneous things lying around the cabin. There was also a small crib next to the chair so I decided to gently put down my sleeping daughter in there while I try to put some light into the room.

On the table right in front of the fire place were a lighter and a sheet of paper. Flicking the lighter up, a small fire formed just at the top of it from the fluid. Then I quickly lit the paper on fire and threw it into the fire, causing the logs to burn too. The embers of the the crackling fire brought light into the small room that I was in. Taking in my surroundings, I noticed that next to the cradle and rocking chair that there was a small bed barely big enough to fit two people. Next to the wooden door, there was a small kitchen with a few cabinets and a stove with a sink. There was also another room behind the wall the fireplace which was a small bathroom.

Drowsiness crept over me from all that running I had done so I had to turn in.

************

Loud knocking on the door woke me up from my slumber. Jolting to an upright position, I listen carefully to hear who is there.

"Veronica open the door please," Jacob yelled.

Shuffling my still groggy self over to the door, I open it to find not only Jacob but Jonathan with him, hold my Jacob at gunpoint.

My face was paling and my feet were locked into place. My eyes wide with horror as I stared at my husband, so close to death. Jonathan gave me a wicked smile as he tightened his grip on the choke hold he was giving Jacob.

"Now you two will give me your child or I will not only kill you but I will also kill your baby," Johnathan threatened quietly. His words had stung me, slapping me across the face as I pictured the reality unfolding.

Quickly snapping out of my trance, I grab the gun that I had brought with me, holding it dead center between Johnathon's eyes.

"You take one step near my daughter and I will shoot you. Don't test me," I threatened coldly. Jacob was silent and struggling against the tight grasp. Jacob and I locked eyes and just slightly, he gave me a nod.

Jacob brought up his leg and kneed Johnathon straight in the balls causing him to moan in pain crouched while trying to get a good gun shot on us. Both of us ran inside the cabin while he was outside. I then heard another gunshot, which shattered a window.

There was another exit just next to the bathroom. Jacob and I went through it and ran like our lives depended on it. Oh wait they do. My baby was in Jacobs arms as we sprinted faster than a olympics racer.

We barely managed to get out alive with our daughter. He wasn't going to take my child, not without a damn fight.
