Scarlet
My watch read 1:30am. It was a challenge trying to fall back asleep ever since that uncomfortable nightmare. Visions of each little moment were replaying constantly like a never ending movie. Each scene was branded into my brain, making it impossible to ever forget.
I was lounging on one of the outside chairs in the backyard that overlooked a nearby stream. It seemed to be one of my favorite spots to be at lately since it was easier to think about my previous actions.
My eyes were trained onto the free flowing water. It shuffled through the crevices of the grey, stone like rocks in a peaceful manner. The sounds of the water moving about the stream removed some of the unwanted tension from my body. Small wind had blew through the earl morning air causing my hair to fly behind my head calmly.
From behind me, I felt someone come into my presence. Ever so swiftly, a chair next to me was pulled and made a scrapping sound against the concrete ground. I didn't bother looking bother to turn my head since I already knew who was next to me.
Nick cleared his throat next to me, obviously bothered by the awkward silence. "You know, your mother always liked to sit and watch this creek when she wanted to think." He started.
"Do you know about my past?" I blurted all of the sudden. Nick seemed appalled by my outburst but I couldn't suppress my thoughts.
Nick recovered from his shock and slumped down in his chair. "Let's go somewhere. I'll explain what happened on the way but I want to show you something." He vaguely answered while toying with his thumbs.
I nodded as the both of us rose from our chairs. Trailing behind Nick through the empty home, we approach the garage of all the cars everyone had. There were probably over fifty cars parked in here which were all expensive luxury vehicles. Being in Xander's gang has its perks I guess.
The both of us arrived to a black Mercedes Benz. We hopped into the expensive vehicle and drove off with an awkward silence carrying with us.
Thirty or so minutes passed between us and not a word has been exchanged. Nick focused his eyes on the road ahead while I observed the large city buildings zoom behind us. Where ever Nick was taking me was probably out of the province.
"We are here." Nick gruffly says while his car comes to a halt. Taking note of my surroundings, I notice that we are in the hilly parts of California. Getting out of the parked car, I follow behind Nick as he heads up to one of the hills that has a small tree, sitting lonely and above everything else. As I climb further to the top, I notice a stone perched upright against the tree but not touching it. There were some small things engraved onto the stone which I later recognized to be someone's grave.
My joyful smile was wiped from my face as the realization came to me. When I hiked to the very top, I was practically overtaken by a gorgeous meadow. At the bottom, fields of vibrant colored flowers have covered the healthy green grass like a blanket. Even though the night sky was as dark as dusk, it made a beautiful contrast with the blooming flowers and the hills.
I stood still with awe. I was at a lost for words when I gazed upon the beauty in front of me.
"It's beautiful isn't it." Nick let out while letting out a sigh.
I turned my head to see him in front of the grave stone with a mourning expression. His face had turned hard and his eyes like stone. My peaceful mood had vanished when I noticed how much melancholy had formed onto his aging face. Then, he sprinted down the hill which almost caught me off guard. He came to a halt when he saw the meadows of flowers in front of him. Nick crouched down onto his knees and plucked a few colorful flowers gently from the rich soil that grounded the flowers into place.
