The holiday draws near it's closing date and I can't help but feel glum. I've been enjoying myself way too much to leave yet.I still have tomorrow and the morning the next day before I leave but then I've to get on the plane and leave all this behind. When I get up in the morning I make an extra effort. I soak in the Jacuzzi bath, seeping in the suds I blow dry and straighten my hair even though the weather cast said it's gonna be windy and the second it hits my hair it'll go frizzy but still. I want Alessandro to see I've made an effort. I put on an Embroidered front stripe shirt, Pleat front crepe Culottes and Flat elastic back knee boots. I run down and stand outside the front door of the hotel just in time to see Alessandro pull up in his truck. He jumps out and grins when he sees me. 'Good you dress comfortable. I was going to tell you to do so' He says and motions for me to get into his truck. He's also dressed comfortably in an MA1 zip jersey hoodie, Skinny joggers and PU boots with contrast soles. He's carrying a rucksack that I've never seen before and when I get into the front passenger seat I see a giant wicker basket perched on the back seat. It becomes clear from the basket we're having a picnic but the question is where?. Alessandro drives out the way towards his mothers house but he keeps going. We stop outside a huge cliff. I sit, silently praying we wont have to climb the massive rock in front of my eyes but he stops the truck and switches off the engine. He looks at me and grins. I shake my head. 'No. No. No. No. No way in hell!'I tell him but he just grabs his rucksack and the basket and climbs out. I sigh. I follow him out and find him at the beginning of a huge sloping pathway. He hands me a walking stick and we start clambering up the slope together. Before long he's way ahead and I'm gasping, crimson-faced and panting in the background. Alessandro stops for the hundredth time to wait for me and I struggle up to him. 'Did...I.......ever.........tell......you.........I'm.......not......into.......sports?' I gasp and he laughs, totally composed unlike the hot mess beside him. 'You might have said it once or twice. We nearly there now' He says, turning and continuing onwards. I sigh in between deep breaths. After what feels like a century we finally reach the summit and now I see why Alessandro's brought me here. The view is breathtaking. He's already sitting down on a picnic blanket, several scented candles and plates of food in front of him. He hands me a glass of sparkling liquid and I feel tense encase it's champagne but when I sip it, it tastes like delicious sparkling apple juice. I look at the huge display of food in front of me. Mia has certainly turned up trumps because Alessandro takes out carrot sticks with beetroot and feta cheese dip, berry crumble bars, grilled chicken salad sandwiches, pickled green peas (which were wonderful dipped in the beetroot dip), tomato pasta salad, mini herb frittatas, creamy blue cheese coleslaw with little individual salty crackers, bell peppers stuffed with vegetable hummus and breadcrumbs, curried turkey, apple and watercress sandwiches, tropical tapioca parfaits and a flask of homemade split pea soup. I tried as hard as I could and so did Alessandro but we couldn't finish half the delicious food. We both felt so sleepy after we'd finally finished eating that we lay down, my head on Alessandro's chest. When we wake the sun is setting, casting a golden glow over us. We pack up the food and set off back down the mountain. By the time I reach the truck I'm bloody exhausted. My head lolls to the side and it's all I can take not to fall asleep. When we get back to the hotel Alessandro picks me up and carries me to my room bridal style. 'Will I see you again?' I whisper. 'Yes. I promise Carmela. I promise. I swear' He whispers. I hope he keeps that promise.
