I go and sit in the cafe by the sea, sipping cherry cordial and trying to go over what just happened. The waiter, who is named Frederick kept finding every excuse to talk to me. He tries to tempt me into chocolate pancakes, ice cream soda, waffles, frog legs, bagels with salmon and cream cheese. I rejected each and every one of them and eventually he left me alone and moved on to some ditzy bimbo blonde in a window seat, dressed in a very short skirt and crop top, showing a lot of flesh. I tap my nails against the cool glass and whistle through my teeth. Where is Alessandro?. Just as I think about him the tiny bell on the door chimes and he walks through the door. 'Four currant bu- Carmela?' He says and I turn to him. 'Hey' I say softly.  He doesn't have to talk. He wraps me up in a vanilla-scented hug and allows my eyes to water. 'Frederick, I pay you for cordial later' He calls to the water but Frederick is too engrossed in feeding strawberries to the girl in the booth. Alessandro opens the back door, the bell chiming and leads me to a chair overlooking the beach. We sit and stay silent for as few minutes. 'You like to tell me what happened?' He asks me and I sigh. I tell him every last detail and I collapse, tears dribbling out of my eyes and I don't even attempt to stop them. Alessandro gently throws an arm around my shoulders, tugging me into his chest. 'Your sister Cassia, do you feel overshadowed by her?' He asks me and I shrug. 'I've never really thought about it. I mean, we were always like two peas in a pod. I didn't even realise up until an hour ago how much it hurt me that Mother always took more of an interest in Cassia's life than mine' I say, wiping my tears. 'I went through a similar thing. My brother River was always the favourite. Always got biggest presents, lots of money. Relatives would always pat his hair and give him fudges, telling him how tall he was getting. He even got the looks. Bright blonde curls and blue eyes. Our parents cherished him. Giving him extra eggs or bacon at breakfast, an extra chop at dinner. They even gave him more pocket money!. Greggory, Bruno, Pascal and I always felt very envious. When my father died, he uh he left the Earth with me resenting him and I've never forgiven myself since' He says, teary eyed. I grab his hand, staring at him and knowing he wants to add something. 'That is why you make up with your mother. You not know what happens next' He says and I sigh nodding. 'I best get back then' I say and stand up. 'I like you Carmela. You are not like girls here' He says and blows me a kiss. I stare after him and take a deep breath walking up towards the hotel. Here goes nothing.
