Prolouge

1997

Dan's POV 

        I could feel Mum's warm hand warm me up against the cold December air. We walked into the toy shop as Mum said that I could pick out one of my Christmas presents. The warmth disappeared as she let go of my hand and let me roam the store myself. The large stuffed zebras caught my eye and I walked towards the stuffed animals. There were a couple other kids in the aisle with me but I just ignored them. One was tall and had bright orange hair and the other was shorter and obviously younger. He had soft looking blonde hair and bluey green eyes. 

         " Mum! Martin keeps making fun of me again! ", the younger kid whined. The kid whose name must have been Martin just smirked. Their mum just frowned disapprovingly at Martin and turned back to the wooden blocks and prices. I went back to looking at the shelves and spotted and medium sized fluffy brown bear. I went to reach for it and I felt something else as I fell to the ground. I heard another body hit the ground with mine and I held my head and groaned.

" Oh dear, I am so sorry! " they young boy said. I sat up and stared at the blonde haired  boy. 

" It's fine. I wasn't looking. Oh god! My head hurts! " I said as tears formed in my eyes. He looked at me sadly and helped me up. 

" I am so sorry. I'm super clumsy. I'm Phil. " he said and reached out his hand. 

" It's fine and I'm Dan. Nice to meet you Phil. "I said and put my hand out to and shook his hand. 

" So, you liked the bear? " he said and I looked at him puzzled. Oh, duh , the bear we both went for. 

" Oh, yeah. It just looks so fluffy! I might ask mum to get it for me for Christmas. " I pronounced and he chuckled with his tongue sticking out a little.  " Well, I should get back to my mum. Bye Phil. " I said and turned around right into my mother. 

" Daniel, who's your friend? " Mum asked me and I stared at her shocked from my second hit today.

" Oh, this is Phil. Phil, this is my mum. " I introduced and Phil's mum walked over moments before while I was staring at Mum. 

" Hi, I am Diane and you are? " Phil's mum questioned. 

" Oh, I am Sarah. I just noticed my boy Dan talking to your son, Phil. I thought I would come and see what they were up to. " Mum chuckled. 

" Well, you boys sound like good friends already. Maybe you and Dan can have a play date tomorrow? " Phil's mum asked as she looked at Phil and I and put her hands on Phil's shoulders. 

" I think Dan would love to! We should definitely keep in touch. " My mum pronounced for me and swapped numbers with Mrs. Lester. 

" Dan, we have got to go. Come on. " Mum said as she grabbed my hand and walked towards the front of the door. Who knew that interaction would change my life forever.
