I arrive at school early in the morning to possibly catch Luhan in the gym. I park in the half filled parking lot and grab my bag, half running, half walking up the steps. I walk down the school’s main hallway and enter the gym on the left side. I take a quick glance around the gym, hearing my footsteps echo into the emptiness.
“Luhan?” I call, “Are you here?”
No answer. I guess I’ll just take that as a no. Dang, I guess we’ll just practice after school.
I turn around and begin walking towards the exit.
“Lindy!”
“Oh! Hi Kai!”
Great… I didn’t exactly want to see you…
“What are you doing here so early?” he asks.
I’d ask the same of you.
“I wanted to see if Luhan would be here so that we can test something out for our routine real quick.”
“Oh,” he says, looking disappointed.
I gently smile at him and begin walking towards the exit again. Walk away. Just walk away.
“If you want, I can try…to help you?” he suggests.
I turn around and look at his hopeful expression. I feel bad. I really do. But I can’t.
“Sorry, I can’t. I have to go to class,” I lie.
I smile and quickly walk out of the gym, taking a route to my locker. More people file into the school, most of them lining up at the bookkeeper’s office to buy tickets to the Valentine’s Day dance.
I let out a sigh as I arrive at my locker, silently wishing that I had someone to go to the dance with, other than being required to go due to my commitment with Luhan.
I grab my physics binder and book before closing my locker.
“Hey! Lindy!” someone shouts as they run down the hall.
I turn my head to see Luhan running towards me while waving his hand in the air.
What could he want now?
“Hey!” he greets, out of breath.
“Hi,” I say with a small smile.
“Um, so I can’t really meet after school today. I have to do something before the dance. But I’ll pick you up at five. What color is your dress?”
“Uh…pink?” I say.
“Oh okay! Good. Just wanted to make sure we match for the…dance…yeah…” he says, his eyes shifting to the right.
“Okay, I’ll see you tonight at five!” I say as I turn around to walk towards my physics class.
“Okay! See ya!”
~~~~~
School has never passed more slowly. Each class seemed to drag on for the longest time. I’m probably just paranoid. After briefly stopping at my locker, I walk out the doors and walk towards my car. I see Claire walking to the back of her car and start running towards her to tell her everything that has happened.
“Claire! Claire!”
She turns her head in my direction and smiles. “Hey Lindy! What’s up?”
“I have so much to tell you. I’m going to the dance with Luhan.”
“Yeah, I knew that. You guys are dancing together.”
“No, no, he asked me to the dance. But we’re only going as friends.”
She creases her eyebrows. “What? Only as friends? That’s strange. I figured he would have asked to go as your date. I’m pretty sure he likes you.”
“That’s what I thought! But asking me to go as friends sure doesn’t sound like it!”
She lets out a sigh and crosses her arms. “Well, I don’t know what to tell you. But hey, do you mind if I talk to you later? I have to go home and get ready before the dance. Kai asked me to go with him.”
My eyes widen, but I quickly compose myself. “Oh, yeah. I’ll see you later tonight.”
We both turn around as I walk to my car and put my belongings into the trunk of my car. I watch Claire as she pulls out of the school parking lot.
I totally forgot that I never told Claire about Kai.
I get into the driver’s seat of my car and begin to leave the school.
Tonight will definitely be interesting.
