There were boxes of already packed belongings sitting patiently in the living room. With everything set up and agreed to, Tracy had informed everyone that the move day would be earlier than expected. Lily was just fine with that. She didn't have much and it didn't take her that long to pack most everything. Actual moving day wasn't for at least a week, but she was ready. She loved the house Tracy had picked and showed her. It was a single family home- three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and even a small pool. Nothing fancy but practical. Tracy could easily afford it with her new paycheck without counting what Lily brought in. It was a lovely situation.
Sitting on the recliner, now wrapped and ready for shipping, Lily tapped away at her laptop, feet kicked up on a sturdy, full box. The couch was gone, sold cheap to someone who wanted it. There would be new furniture with the new house, both Lily and Tracy agreed. The recliner was the only thing coming along. It was the only thing that was wanted and would definitely be used. Lily thought about bringing along her bed but... too many memories. Or actually just one particular memory. She needed to forget it in order to fully move on.
Her cell started to ring and she answered it smoothly without taking her eyes off the laptop. "Hey."
Tracy said, "Hey," right back. Then, "Got everything ready? You're staying with me until the move, right? What did the complex people say?"
"Well they wanted more of a heads up but because I'm willing to pay the rest of the month and out of my lease they're letting me go immediately. I can be gone by tonight and they'd be fine with it. I already asked, just in case."
"Great. You're ready? When do you want me over? I'm almost off."
"Any time. Everything's gone here but what I'm going to take to the new house. Gonna help me with the boxes? My recliner?"
"Duh. Who else is going to do it?"
"Is all my stuff going to fit in your car?"
"What won't will go in your car. We can strap your fat chair to the top. Problem solved."
"It's not a fat chair."
"It's the chair you use when you want to be fat and lazy. It's a fat chair. Anyway, we only have to do this once. I'm going to hire moving guys to take everything to the new house when the day comes. Did you sell that kitchen table?"
"Yeah. Why? Did we need it?"
"No. Just checking. Okay. I'll be there in about an hour. Danny's coming, too. Hungry? I know he will be so I'm going to pick something up on the way."
"You know what I like."
Tracy hummed then hung up. Lily stretched, wriggling her toes, then slumped. She would never admit the recliner is her fat chair, mostly because she was always in it. Whatever. She was glad she was taking it with her. She'd be fat and lazy at the new house if she wanted to.
She shut her laptop then went to get ready for Tracy's arrival. She showered then dressed in the only clothes she hadn't packed. For the rest of the hour she sat and worked because there was nothing else to do. The TV was long gone, unfortunately. But she was prepared to buy an even larger one to put into the new house so that everyone could enjoy it. She was thinking one with internet capabilities. Perhaps one that would be mounted to the wall, or 3D to give Danny something to smile about.
Eventually, Tracy came through the front door with Danny tagging along beside her. She handed over her spare key to Lily first thing. "You should probably give that back. Did you get mom's?"
