"Last day," Lily announced over breakfast. They were eating in the living room with the patio doors wide open to let in the morning sun and air. The kids were still knocked out and sleeping like bricks, but the adults were up and ready for the day. "What should we do?"
Tracy hummed in contentment and took a good swig of her coffee. "I wanted to go down to the spa but I think I've used all of the sessions that you pre-bought..." She dropped her head back and rolled it to blink innocently at Lily.
Snorting, Lily waved a hand. "Go on. Pamper yourself. Whatever else you get is half off."
A slow smile spread Tracy's lips. "Love you."
"Yeah, yeah." Lily stuffed her mouth with eggs then turned to June. "What about you?" she warbled out. "Want to do anything special for our last day?"
"Nothing special. Though the kids will probably want to do something when they get up."
"Water park?" Lily guessed.
"Most likely."
Making a face, Lily stuck out her tongue. Going to the park the day before sapped all of her energy. It gave her a great night's sleep, but still, it was extremely tiring. "I don't know if I want to do that again. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but man, it's exhausting."
"I can watch the kids while you go out," Tracy said idly. "If you guys wait until I'm done with the spa, I mean."
"You really want to do that?" June asked.
"Well, it is my turn. I'll go down to the spa in a little while to get relaxed then come back up and hang out with the kids so you two can do whatever you want. Sound good?"
June looked to Lily, who half-shrugged and made a face, but nodded. They all agreed that that would be just fine and got along with breakfast. The kids remained knocked out throughout the whole meal, and even remained asleep when Tracy was already leaving for the spa.
"She didn't make jokes," June said when Tracy was gone. She was seated on the couch, her legs tucked comfortably underneath her. "Not even a veiled jab about us."
Lily sighed heavily as she flopped into the free space beside June. "It's a freakin' miracle."
"Think she'll finally leave us alone?"
"Never."
June chuckled and turned on the TV, leaving the volume low so as not to bother the kids. They didn't appear near coming back to the land of the living anytime soon but she wasn't going to force them up with noise. It wasn't as though they had anything waiting for them, anyway, aside from breakfast, which had been ordered earlier but was covered up in the kitchen until needed.
Slumping nicely in her seat, Lily spread out her legs and rested her hands on her thighs as she watched June switch between channels. She wasn't in a hurry to leave so took pleasure in simply turning into a couch potato for a while. It probably wouldn't last long, she mused. The kids would be up and running around eventually. But, then again, that would be Tracy's problem.
A warm hand on her knee made Lily blink, and she froze. The hand didn't move nor do anything that caused gooseflesh, but it was strange. It rested on her innocently. She glanced over at June and moved her arm to lay on the back of the couch. June squeezed Lily's knee and scooted over to be in her embrace. Lily warmed at the increased contact. They stayed that way, still, nether of them speaking, until the sound of the kids waking up echoed. Lily cleared her throat and brought her arm back to herself, averting her eyes. June only pat Lily's hand in an act of incredible understanding.
