After numerous back and forth calls between Tracy and June and a hotel, Lily had plans set in stone and a mini vacation prepared down to the last detail. They all would be going to a resort for four days where the adults could relax in the grand suite Lily had booked and the kids could have a blast at the water park reserved exclusively for resort guests. It had cost a pretty penny but that didn't bother Lily all that much. It wasn't as though she had been saving for something special. Anyway, she still had a large portion in the bank saved that would keep her afloat for an extremely long time.
When the day came to depart and head over to the resort, Lily went to Tracy's, made sure Danny and Tracy were packed, then took Tracy's car to June's. The trunk fit Christina and June's bags with ease and that was that. Last stop was the resort. Danny and Christina talked animatedly about all the things they had been told about the vacation, and they were itching to run around and play. Tracy was ready for the spa, which Lily had booked precisely because she knew Tracy would take great pleasure in it, and June seemed bright at the prospect of staying in a fancy hotel suite. The drive to the resort was loud and filled with excited chatter.
When they arrived and all the bags were out of the trunk, Tracy was in charge of holding on to the kids while June and Lily took the luggage, and Lily went to take care of everything at the front desk. Check-in went smoothly and Lily received four wristbands for the adjoining water park and a smiling staff member to help with the bags and to be a guide to their suite. The kids were practically shaking and Tracy made sure to squeeze their little hands so they wouldn't escape. June and Lily kept an eye on them, too, on the way to their room, just in case.
"Holy..." Tracy murmured when she was in the suite and she released the kids to explore their new home for the next four days.
The suite was enormous, having three rooms, private bathrooms, a living room, dining room, wet bar, mini bar, and two private patios. There was high speed internet, telephones, four televisions, and even a clock radio. The adults marveled at it all in slow motion as the kids ran around jumping on couches and sprinting between bedrooms.
"Can we afford this?" June whispered. The staff member that had helped them was still in the room, putting down bags.
Lily tipped him then sent him on his way with a thank you. "I can," she told June. "Don't worry about it."
June pressed her lips together in concern but said nothing else. Tracy flopped down on one of the couches in the living room and moaned. "Sometimes I forget what a pack-rat you are with money," she said to the ceiling, but meaning Lily. "This is amazing. What else is there?"
Lily picked up her bag and hiked it up on her shoulder. "Spa, pools, water park, golf, breakfast in the morning, grill, bar, restaurants, cafe. They have pretty much everything here. Want to get settled in or get started on it all?" Tracy moaned again but that was all. Lily chuckled and said aloud that she was going to pick a room. No one stopped her, so she went to the first one she found and claimed it as her own. She threw her bag on the bed and checked out her area. It was amazing, comfy, and the connected bathroom was sparkling. In the end she figured the extra money she spent to get the whole package was worth it.
"Hey."
Lily jumped and turned, not expecting June to come in unannounced. She smiled and sat down on the bed. "Hey." She motioned around. "Great, right? Did you pick a room?"
There was a nervous smile on June's lips. "Uh, no..."
"What's wrong?"
June sighed and came out with it. "Can you really afford this? I don't want you to be spending beyond your means, especially for Christina and I. I don't feel comfortable..."
