"Finally!" Parker said to me as we pushed our way through the crowd "it's the twenty third and we get brake now! Christmas is tomorrow, why would they keep us so long?"
"yeah I know, but hey we come back to school on the twentieth Parker"
The whole walk home Parker was talking about what he was gonna do over the break, he had his sister Sydney coming down, for a bit, eat more cancerous food, a basketball tournament and hang out with me. I didn't really have any plans over the break, except go shopping with my friends and hang out with Parker, nothing really special because my mom is caught up in work. Parker insisted on me coming over to meet his family and hang out there, because we're always over at my place when we hung out.
When we got to his place, His mom and dad were on the porch arguing. I looked at Parker, he sighed and kept on walking, completely ignoring them. Parker's mom walked in and followed us to the kitchen, smiling "Hi, you must be Addison! Parker told me a lot about you" Parker's mom took my hand and shook it. Parker's mom was pretty, she looked fairly young, she had her hair that looked like Parker's pulled back into a tight bun, you could see the resemblance between the two.
I met Parker's three sisters: Lindsey, Robin and Alex. Lindsey was the youngest, being only five, Robin was nineteen and Alex was eighteen. Alex looked a lot different than everyone else in the family, everyone looked alike with the same hair colour and eyes, but Alex had dirty blonde hair and green eyes, I liked Alex the most out of them all, she was the kindest out of the others, were they ignored me.
Parker and I went upstairs to his room, his room was dark and felt really small. His walls were a dark blue, with a bed in the corner and a desk right across from the bed, that took up most space. I sat down in his chair and watched Parker lay down on his bed. Parker and I locked eyes with each other. I pictured myself in Parker's arms, with him kissing my forehead and I loved it. Parker and I didn't know Lindsey standing at the door, giggling. "Parker has a girlfriend!" she was screaming, as she ran down the hall towards her room. I look away, embarrassed. I felt a shade of red on my cheeks, I bit my lip nervously and stood up. Parker sat up on his bed and laughed "sorry about that, she thinks every girl is my girlfriend". I felt the tension between us die down shortly after, we laughed about it for a bit and shortly after I headed home.
When I got home I ended up watching my grandfather's favourite movie 'Planet on the Apes', the old one from the 70s, it was his favourite movie and it was until he died, two years ago from a heart attack. Around 8:40 my mom called me, I picked up the phone and my mom sounded furious.
"Hi mom-"
"what's wrong with you!"
"excuse me?"
"you're doing drugs!"
I went wide eyed when I heard those words come out of her mouth, I've never tried drugs before and I never wanted to, so I didn't know where this came from.
"I never-"
"don't lie to me Addison!" my mom was practically screaming, I was hoping she wasn't doing this in front of people.
"mom, I'm not!"
"Meghan said you were and I don't think your sister would lie about that! I want you out of the house by tonight!"
"where am I going to go?" I was on the urge of tears, I had no where to go in terms to live, I don't have enough money to own a house, and I can't go live with my dad that would be bad news.
"I don't know Addison, but I'm not gonna raise a drug addict"
"mom-"
My mom hung up before I could say anything else. I put my phone down and started packing things I was gonna need. I was trying to wrap my head around of what happened, but the only thing I understood was my sister Meghan was behind this. Meghan and I never got along, especially after the divorce, she was mad I stayed behind with our mom instead of coming with her and dad. Meghan had always had a bad temper, you could've been sitting on the couch where she wanted to sit and she would straight up smack you. Meghan got worse as we got older, she has become the definition of evil. Meghan and I go to the same school but she was in the same grade as Alex, so I never really saw her and I was thankful for that.
I was walking down the street and I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket, I pulled out my phone quickly hoping it was my mom changing her mind, but it was just Parker. I hesitated before answering, I didn't want to Parker right now.
"Addison!"
"yeah?"
"there's this new restaurant downtown, we should go tomorrow!"
My voice started to get shaky, my whole body was shaking. I started crying quietly, hoping Parker didn't hear me.
"Addison. . . are you okay?"
I looked up and sighed "No"
The other end of the line went quiet.
"Parker?"
Parker suddenly spoke up. "Sorry, my mom was asking me something. What's wrong?"
"I got accused of drugs and you know my mom kicked me out, so now I'm homeless!"
Parker disappeared off the line again, but came back within a second.
"Come here Addison. . . my mom said you can stay"
I hung up the phone and started walking to Parker's house, I didn't want to live with him and his family, I felt like a hassle but it was the only place I got.
When I reached Parker's house, Parker stood on the porch. I walked up to him and before I could say anything, Parker pulled me into his arms and hugged me. It wasn't called for, but it felt nice being in his arms. Parker walked me inside to the living room, where stood the Christmas tree and presents piled underneath the tree. I thought back to the last time I celebrated Christmas with my family, that was four years ago, Meghan nearly burned down the house by trying to make breakfast.
I sat down on the couch and looked at the ceiling, wishing the day would just end. Parker handed me a blanket and pillow and said "goodnight" before walking off. This has been the worst Christmas.
