here come the clouds pouring down

on the haven we called home

on everything we used to know

no more sunsets, no more sky

no room left for flowers to grow

as children we'd gaze up at the stars

like they were more than hope

feeling we could get there

knowing we would

if we only dreamed a bit higher

reached a little further

stopped calling our only savior "father"

how much can we take?

before we have to give

besides our words

that without them we surely couldn't live

the stars that illuminate our haven

burn too much

and take in not enough

our haven was a home

until the day that flowers turned to stone

we were issued warning

and blatantly ignored everything foreboding

cause what could happen to us?

tucked away in a nice little haven?!

where we all preach "nevermore, quoth the raven"

and we all point to our stars

as if we don't know who they are anymore

our haven was a home

until the day walls were built from the stones

separating new from old

waging wars based on assumptions

that quickly turn to corruption

tearing the stones in two

never to be the same again

while we pretend nothing's different

"we're still the same"

"we haven't changed!"

our haven was a home

our haven was a home

a home that protected and accepted

respected and never rejected

until the day

our stars shined brighter

until the day that our haven got bigger

the stone that was once flowers stretched too far

to support the new flooding in from a door left ajar

and it fell

and it fell

until you couldn't see it no more

until our stars were unreachable

faint

our haven was once a home

one that we now owe

only we can't get it together

without our stars to light our path

it's a bit too dark

and we explode with wrath

we were supposed to go so far!

we had hope!

we had dreams!

we had stars that believed!

and goddammit where have we gone?!

turns out, a bit too far

cause, well, our haven just killed someone.
