"I just can't believe you weren't careful enough to see that the chair had only one leg!" Mum says the next day. "How did you even manage to get on it?"

As you could tell, I hadn't told the truth about what happened at the party. I was sure Mum would never allow me to go out on my own again. And Corl was planning a New Years Eve party. I felt certain that I would miss it if Mom found out what happened at the Christmas party.

Bella stared at me. "It's a mystery..." she said, still looking at me. My phone vibrated in my pocket, but I ignored it. I was curious about Bella. She didn't look as if she believed me when I had told her about the chair with two legs.

She laughed so hard that she choked on her cereal when I had told her about how I climbed on the chair with two legs, fell down and cut my hand on Corl's glass of milk.

Bella gave me a huge smile and went back to munching on her cereal. I took my phone out my pocket and nearly dropped it when I saw the message.

I stuffed my phone back in my pocket. No way in hell that I was going to get my other hand in put plaster. How did I know that he wasn't drunk? I wasn't even sure if I wanted to have his number on my phone.

"It was great of Natasha to help you with your hand." Dad says, lifting up his fork.

"What happened to it anyway? I know the crazy story you told us but how did you get your hand in a plaster?" Bella asked curiously.

"Umm." I hadn't thought they'd ask me this. I took my phone out of my pocket. "Oh look at the time! I had promised Corl that I'd help with his New Years Eve party.. we still need to come up with ideas for the food... Bye!" I said running out the door.

Then I did what I thought I wouldn't do. My eyes searched around the beach for Denis and I saw him in front of the ocean wearing a cat hoodie and a pair of shorts. He picked up a stone and skipped it before it sank to the cold, dark bottom of the sea.

My leg took one step and suddenly I was running towards him calling his name.

He turned around and smiled. Then as I got closer to him I slowed down and eventually stopped in front of him.

"I swear I wasn't.." Denis started to talk, but I put a finger up to his lips.

"You weren't aiming at me. But.. why were you aiming at Hideki?" I ask.

"I felt like since she lied to me... that I had no one to trust.. and I was pretty drunk. B-but I didn't actually want to smash her head open or anything. I just wanted to scare her and make her feel hurt like how I felt hurt.. but then you got in the way and.. well.." Denis said.

"She said she was only making a joke that she didn't mean for this all to happen. I was walking home and I saw her crying." Denis went on.

"Why did you get drunk in the first place?" I asked.

"Well. I was a little jealous when I thought that you two were dating. I felt empty." Denis said kicking  a pebble.

"Of him dating me? Why would you be jealous?" I asked, trying to get to the bottom of this.

"Well when I first arrived and Hideki was telling me of you two, Yuy took me upstairs and started talking to me. I was so mad that Corl hadn't told me that you two were dating, and she looked at me as if I was crazy. She said she had no idea what I was talking about. Yuy also said that you guys weren't dating and Hideki was a liar. I wanted to believe her... but Hideki had really convinced me that you two were dating." Denis says, staring out at the sea.

"Are you in love with me?" I asked, with a little bit of hope inside me.

Denis takes a long time to answer. Then he turns to me. "A person who would hurt someone else doesn't love them. Isn't that true?"

I nod, my last shred of hope vanishing.

"Then why were you so jealous?" I asked.

Then Denis looks at me wide eyed and he was blushing. Madly.

"Um... I.. well I was jealous because Corl got a girlfriend before I did and um... I... I thought he was hiding something from me. So I got mad and a little bit jealous. Also Hideki kept buying me drinks from that alcohol stand." says Denis still blushing.

There wasn't real alcohol at that stand. So how could Denis have gotten drunk?

"That stand.. it was fake. Corl set it up because he thought you would laugh." I told him. "How were you drunk?"

"Well, the first drink I had tasted like diluted orange juice. So Hideki heard me saying that I felt empty and I needed to get drunk and she said she got drinks from the stand a few minutes earlier." Denis looked as if he was trying to peice something together in his mind.

"Hideki kept passing me more and more drinks. And she was telling me about how she thought that you and Corl were such a cute couple. Then she said that Corl was going to propose to you and I exploded with anger. It was almost as if she wanted to see me mad." Denis said.

"But she got really scared when you got drunk." I pointed out.

"So she tried to get me drunk so that our friendship could be destroyed! That lying little bi-" I covered Denis's mouth. "How about we go to Hideki and confront her ourselves?" I asked, trying to keep the peace.

He nodded, so I took my hand down from his mouths and Denis led the way to Hideki's house.

He stopped suddenly. "Oh and (your name)? Are we friends now? Did Hideki already break our friendship?"

"That will never come to pass." I smiled and hugged him. I took a peek at his face and saw that he was blushing.

Could there be a tiny chance that he loved me?

Or was I thinking of the impossible again?

As we got closer and closer to Hideki's house, I felt pretty scared. What if she shot us in the head and hid our bodies?

Who would laugh and chat with Dani?

Or watch calm Adriana down when she saw a spider?

Or if Tabitha ever got shy during something important, who would support her?

It sure wouldn't be me if Hideki killed me.

"We're here." Denis said.

I taking a deep breath, I reached out my hand shakily, and knocked on the door.
