You were shaken awake suddenly.  Blinking, you sat up to see that you were lying on your couch, next to your boyfriend, Montgomery "Scotty" Scott.  He had been the one to shake you.  He was glancing down at his watch in a sleepy confusion and gesturing towards the time.  It read 2:34 am.

"Aye, Lassie, we missed midnight," he said.

"Shit," you said, "We must be getting old.  I don't even remember falling asleep."

"Must have been during the movie," he said, pointing to the TV, which can displayed the DVD logo that bounced around the screen.

"I haven't missed midnight on New Years Eve since I was seven," you remarked, laying your head back down on his chest.

"Well, if we are getting old, you're still as beautiful as you were when we first met," Scotty said, "I just wished we had been awake for midnight.  I had plans."

"Plans?"

He shifted his body out from under yours and got off of the couch, digging around in his pocket.  He pulled something that you could not quite see out of his left pocket and knelt down.

"(Y/n), I've loved you for three years.  You're the only girl, other than the Enterprise, who I care about this much.  I know I'm never going to stop loving you, so, Lassie, will you make me the happiest lad in the universe and marry me?" He asked, opening a box to reveal a diamond ring.

Tears of joy stung your eyes as you gasped and somehow managed to choke out the word "Yes."  He stood up and you jumped into his arms, kissing his neck, cheeks, and, finally, his lips in a long and passionate moment.

"Scotty," you said, pulling away for air, "I love you so much."

"I love you too," he said back, "I'm sorry that I couldn't do this at midnight and make it extra special."

"As long as we don't fall asleep and miss our wedding, it's all fine."
