A/N: So I have one more New Years imagine after this, and then that's it for 2016.

"1!" The voices on the TV shouted as a large number flashed across the screen. You walked over to the window with your drink and stared up at the stars. Each little light twinkled down at you, here on Earth. You sighed, knowing that he, Pavel Chekov that is, was up there. You clinked your glass against the glass pane of the window and drank it, wishing the whole time that he was here with you instead of being up in the stars.
"Happy New Years, Pavel," you muttered, holding back tears as you stated at the inky expanse outside your window.

Many light years away, aboard the USS Enterprise, Chekov sat in the bridge, looking out at space on the display screen, wishing he was instead seeing Earth. Earth was where (y/n) was, and he missed her dearly. He knew that New Years Eve was sometime tonight, but it was hard to celebrate in space due to the time-zones of Earth. Still, he had managed to set his watch to go off at the exact moment that the she would experience the stroke of midnight.
He knew she was wishing he was there, and he was wishing there was some way he could be there to hold her in his arms and tell her that he loved her.
His watch beeped and he whispered, "Happy New Years, (Y/n)," but, of course, she didn't hear.

Almost a year later, you were on a small commerce planet, trying to buy a gift for someone that you couldn't find anywhere else. You walked past shops, scanning windows. You went into a coffee shop, hoping to get a hot chocolate, since it was close to the holidays and hot chocolate always felt festive and warm. After you placed your order, you walked over to an empty table, only to be suddenly bear hugged by someone. You looked up in shock and confusion to see Pavel Chekov. As soon as it registered, you smashed your lips against his.
"Pavel, how are you here?" You asked as you touched his face to make sure he was real.
"Ze keptin gave us shore leave," he said, nestling his head in the crook of your neck, "(Y/n), I missed you so much, and I didn't think I'd see you for another few years.
"Well I'm here now," you said, "How long are you here?"
"A few more hours," he said, sadly.
"Then we've got a few hours to catch up," you smiled up at him, "do you want to sit down?"
"I vould like nothing better."
