I'm in the backseat of a car that's going way too fast. I can't see the drivers face. Looking out the window, I see other cars passing us but honking their horns as they go by. I look back to the front and see headlights coming our way. Are we on the wrong side of the road? A coal truck is almost in front of us now.
"Hey! We're on the wrong side of the road!"
The driver doesn't respond. They just keep driving. I notice that their hair is long and brown like mine. It's even styled the way I usually wear it.
The coal truck hits us and the car starts spinning. The drivers head hits the stirring wheel, hard.
"Are you okay?!"
No response.
The car stops spinning and lands in a ditch. I climb up front and shake the driver. They don't move. I pull them up so that I can see if their head is okay. I know that it's girl now. I move the hair out of her face and scream.
It's me!
I start screaming and shaking myself.
"Katie!"
I feel someone shaking me and I jolt awake. Connor is staring at me.
"Connor? Where am I?"
"The hospital. I need to tell the doctor that you're awake."
He rushes out of the room. I look around in confusion. Did I really get in a car wreak or did something else happen? Hopefully that was just a bad dream. I see someone sitting in the chair across the room, sleeping. Josh. Why is he here? I understand why Connor is but it doesn't make sense for him to be here.
Connor comes back in the room with a older women. Maybe in her late 30s. She must be the doctor.
"Hello Katie. How are you feeling?"
"I'm feeling okay. What happened?"
"You were in a car accident. You didn't get seriously hurt. You were just out for about two months. You seem to remember people so that's a good sign."
I just nod. That's a lot to take in. I was out for two months? That's a long time. Where are my parents?
"Where are my parents?"
"Working. I called and told them you were awake but they didn't say much. You can go home soon."
She smiles then walks out of the room. I look at Connor and he gives me a small smile. I smile back then look at Josh. He's still sound asleep. Connor sits down on the bed beside me.
"I know about the whole Josh and you thing. You told me the night in the closet."
"Oh, I'm sorry Connor."
"It's okay. I understand now. He cares about you. I can tell."
"How?"
"We'll talk about it later. Just enjoy being awake right now."
I nod at him and smile.
I got released from the hospital a few hours ago. I'm at home now. Connor and I talked earlier. He told me how Josh came every day after school and sat with him. He cried when he heard I was in a car wreak and might not wake up. And he even spent a few nights at the hospital with me. I can tell that he does care about me but he hasn't tried to talk to me yet. Maybe he will at school.

Everyone has been so nice all day. I think they just feel sorry for me but it's okay. Today has flown by and I have so much make up work. I walk into 4th block and sit beside Connor. He smiles at me and continues drawing.
Josh walks in and starts taking row. His eyes meet mine and he smiles. I smile back. He gives us the assignment then starts walking towards me. He stops in front of me.
"Nice to see you back in class."
"Nice to be back."
He walks back to his desk and sits down.
Class ends and I start packing my stuff. Connor is standing out in the hall waiting on me because my car is useless now. I walk up to Josh's desk and smile at him.
"Hey, Josh."
"Hey. How are you feeling?"
"Good. Thanks for going to the hospital."
He just smiles and stands up. He leans over and kisses me. It doesn't feel right at all. It's feels weird and foreign. I pull away and he gives me a look. I just shake my head and walk out the door. I walk right past Connor and out of the door. I go to his car and get in. Letting out a sigh, I lay my head back. I hear the car door open and shut again.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine."
"What happened?"
"He kissed me and it felt all weird and different. Almost like I've kissed someone better."
He doesn't say anything back. He just starts the car and starts driving.
He stops at my house and I look at him.
"Are you okay, Connor?"
"Yes, well actually no."
"Well what's wrong?"
"We need to talk. I might know why you feel weird kissing Josh now."
