Envy

I envied her for her beauty
Her silent blue ocean eyes
Her pale yet clear complexion
   Her small button nose
The dimples on her cheeks
And the soft rose shade on her temples
She was the definition of beauty
And I wanted to be her

But while I envied her
She envied this girl
She sat alone but had a loud mind
She was quiet yet strong
Her mind was a cave
Full of intellectuality
And full of understanding
She was the definition of intelligent
And she wanted to be her

That quiet girl that she envied
Was envying a boy she knew
He was so well at sports
He knew how to dribble basketballs
And how to make touchdowns
He was a fast runner
And you could always see him
Running to make the goal
Or shot
Or touchdown
Or home run
He was the definition of athletic
And she wanted to be like him

Now this boy had envy
this boy he was friends with
He was jealous of him being openly gay
Openly proud of who he was
He never gave a fuck
About what he wore
Or him making out in public
How he could have so much pride
While others tried to lower his self-esteem
He walked with fierceness
He was the definition of brave
And he wanted to be him

So that gay boy envied this girl
How she could write with such passion
Such voice
The way she could describe a simple thing
Into something more interesting than it was before
She wrote with power and purpose
She was loud when she was with her friends
But quiet when her mind was racing
With words she needed to express
She was the definition of a ghostwriter
And he wanted to be just like her.

That girl that that boy wanted to be was me.
