~Chapter Ten - Blade's Dilemma ~
“I’m really, really sorry Blade.” Conner apologized as soon as Blade took his seat in the gym class. He watched in confusion as his best friend was holding his feet and lying on the ground. Several other students were busy discussing and only the few who noticed were laughing. Blade himself had a smile on his face.
“What are you doing Conner?” Blade asked after a few seconds of silence. Conner lifted his head and looked at Blade with a nervous smile.
“Well… I… sort of…,” he trailed off.
“First of all, stand up.” Blade told him and he complied. Scratching the back of his head, he avoided Blade’s gaze. “Now tell me. What are you sorry for?”
“Well… I must have told Ashley something that I shouldn’t have.” He admitted. Blade’s ears perked up.
“What do you mean?” Blade inquired. He had already told everything to Ashley. He even told her that he loved her. What was it that Conner had told her?
“I’m really, really sorry.” Conner said again slapping his hands together in front of his face.
“JOHNSON! BROWN! COME HERE!” Their names were called by the gym teacher and they had to join other students. All the while, Conner made sure to evade Blade in every way possible. He was already feeling guilty. He had a big mouth but he didn’t want to tell Blade the rest of the story.
Jake Owens and Matt Stevens were selected as the captains of dodge ball teams. They were calling names of the students who should be in their team. As soon as Jake said Blade’s name, Conner started jumped in front of Matt pointing at himself. Even though Matt was going to call out another name, he said ‘Conner’. Everyone looked at him in confusion.
For the first time in his life, Conner made sure not to get hit with the ball with all his might. He knew if the ball hit him, he’d have to sit in the sidelines and Blade will join him too. Blade’s curiosity must be at its top since the matter was concerning Ashley.
With his lanky limbs, Conner managed to dodge the ball every time that he was the last one in his team. Everyone was surprised to see the boy who usually got hit within five minutes of the game had made it to the end. Even the captain of the team, Jake, was sitting on the benches with a surprised look on his face. Blade wondered the same thing. But it was quite funny to watch Conner jumping around with his lanky limbs, trying to dodge the ball.
“I heard that you got that girl.” Henry spoke to Jake. They both were friends and football team members. It was surprising to see both of them shown way out of the game before Conner.
“Not yet.” Jake shrugged easily.
“What girl?” Harry, one of their friends also joined the conversation. Blade was sitting beside them, wondering what his friend wasn’t telling him.
“Ashley Donalds,” Jake answered and Blade stiffened. Why were they talking about her?
“Isn’t she with Caleb?” Henry injected.
“Nah. Caleb is with Natalie. Now that her best friend is away from her. Now she has no choice but to look for a boyfriend.” Harry reasoned.
Jake scoffed. “You’re saying this because she rejected you.”
“Chill up man! I’m sure if I ask her out, she won’t say no. Besides, you still-,”
“Oh man! How do they do it?” Blade heard Conner’s voice and before he knew, his friend fell on him like a corpse. That grabbed attention of students around him.
