Chapter Twelve – Helpful Friends
“Hello Jesse,” I greeted one of Blade’s friends as I approached their table. I greeted him first because he made eye contact with me. Blade looked kinda happy and Conner looked kinda sullen. Two entirely opposite emotions on the same table.
“Hi Ashley,” His pale cheeks turned red. I smiled. He was really adorable.
“Ashley!” Blade stood up abruptly as if he just noticed me. “I missed you!” He opened his arms. If he was thinking I would hug him then he was completely mistaken. I ignored him and pulled a chair to join them on the table.
Blade still stood with his arms open. His face was priceless though. When he realized I hadn’t hugged him, he sat back with a depressed look on his face.
“That was too cruel of you, Ashley.” He complained.
I rolled my eyes. “And that was too stupid of you.”
“I only wanted to greet the love of my life with open arms so that you would never feel alone.”
“I don’t feel alone.” I, then, diverted my attention to Conner. He had turned his chair, facing away from the table.
What the heck?
Some students were even throwing confused looks in his direction. This jerk!
“Conner, what are you doing?” Jesse asked calmly, gently tapping Conner’s shoulder.
“That girl is a liar.” He pointed over his shoulder with his index finger. The direction his finger was pointing was at the table behind us. A girl in green dress was sitting there. She was talking with her friends.
Me, Blade and Jesse were looking at that girl’s direction.
Before she could catch us staring at her for no reason, I looked away from her. Blade did the same. His eyes met mine and he smiled. A very cute smile. My mouth opened and I couldn’t even smile back. I had never seen him smiling like that. He looked really happy. Happier than ever.
“Why do you say so?” Jesse asked with a confused look on his face. He was still staring at the girl and fixed glasses on his face.
“Jesse, don’t trust her. She is a demon. She plays with your emotions, your fears. She is a true devil.” Conner spoke. Jesse looked at the girl for a couple of more seconds.
“What did she do to you?”
“She lied to me.” Conner finally turned around and explained to Jesse whatever had happened that night. I’ve never seen a guy talking so much before. Jesse finally realized Conner was talking about me and not that girl.
“Dude, you have to point at the right person. One misunderstanding can create big problems.” Jesse told Conner with a serious face.
“What are you talking about?” The ever so oblivious Conner frowned.
“Forget it.” Jesse shook his head. I smiled at their interaction. They both have completely different personalities. Still they are good friends.
“What are you doing here?” Conner asked me.
“I want to talk to Blade.” I told them.
“What do you want to talk about?”
“Something that doesn’t concern you.” I still didn’t know whether Blade had told them about the ball or not. From their expressions, it appeared like he hadn’t.
“You are saying that to me after giving me so much trouble.” Conner gave me a look of disbelief.
“I don’t know what you are talking about.” I shrugged. “Come on Blade. I need to talk to you alone.”
