Chapter 15

"I'm sorry," the girl whispered, repeatedly apologising to Siren. Her frantic and panicked voice echoed throughout the woods as the trees swayed with each passing word.

Siren didn't understand what she was supposed to do, her thoughts scrambled around her head as she puzzled on what the little girl meant. What did she mean by my parents are dead? How does she even know them? Do I even have parents? Who am I? She thought as she approached her cautiously, slowly landing her aching foot on the soft grass below. Siren winced, her body was aching all over from the draining run that all she wanted to do was lay on a soft cottony bed.

Despite the numerous confusing thoughts surrounding her head all she could asked to the little girl was "Who are you?" she muttered. Bewildered at the girl's strange and puzzling actions.

"I'm.." She muttered but suddenly her eyes became heavily drowsy as she dropped below the soft grass.

Alarmed, Siren quickly moved towards her as she carried the fragile girl on her arms. She reached for her head, she was covered with warm sweat as her face grew reddish pink from fever. The chilling wind blew softly across the girl's long curly hair revealing fresh and old violet patched bruises surrounding her arms and neck.

Siren's body turned cold. What to do she needs help? She thought as she steadily carried the girl's warm body behind her back, her arms intertwined the girl's knees as she moved slowly to stand. She wobbled at first but tried her best to regain her balance. With slow and deep ragged breaths she heaved herself up as she moved her body forward.

She thought of places to go when she remembered Kane's directions on where Lucas was hiding. As she quietly prayed for her friends safety, she placed her foot forward and felt the heavy body leaning behind her making her sway forward. What seemed to be a little girl ironically weighed a ton or maybe Siren's exhausted body made her seem to weigh more.

As they reached further, Siren felt fatigued more than ever. She had little rest since they began their journey or have eaten enough to get her through the cold night. Carrying the girl behind her made it seem ages before they could reach their destination until she saw a foggy figure behind a dark tree just several trees ahead. The hazy figure raised its arms, waving towards Siren. She smiled with joy hoping that the dark figure was Lucas.

She heaved forward, hoping that joy she felt would turn into adrenaline to help her move towards the figure unfortunately Siren's vision began to blur and her stomach unpleasantly churned inside her. Her blurry vision became dark as soon as she stepped ahead. She tried to reach forward when her body fell on the floor. Exhaustion consumed her as she fade unconsciously to her dreams.

In the past few days, Siren's dreams revolved around nightmares and dark memories but this time her dreams were pleasant and smooth as she dreamt of a memory she had long time ago.

She was in a small house made of old wooden floors and brown cemented walls. A weird combination indeed but inside smelled like dusty air and corroded metal which made Siren's nose wrinkled from the foul odour. The dust surrounding the air made Siren's nose tickle that it made her want to sneeze.
