Chapter 9

There was a sudden wind gushing around the group as an icy chill came running across their spine, because of their astonishment none of them even questioned where the breeze was coming from. They stood and stared for a couple of seconds. Disbelief, fear and panic was written all over their faces but Siren had a mixed of relief hidden behind the terror that grew inside her.

It was eerie for her to feel something like this. Maybe because after all she's gone through telling her mother that the Order was fake and the humiliation and mockery she received throughout her life for once Siren was right. Her relief was suddenly covered with loneliness. She couldn't tell anyone that she was right because her mother wasn't here.

Siren fell across the floor and the scattered papers caught her gently making her fall less painful. She covered her eyes with her hands as tears fell down her cheeks. She sobbed gently. This was her breaking point. She had so many emotions piling up inside her just like the scattered papers surrounding her. Her heart was now strung with a pang of guilt and pain that it made Siren's soft icy skin miss the warm and gentle hands of her soothing father. She needed him most.

Aiden noticed Siren's sobering cries and gently moved forward to help her. He knelt down in front of Siren looking directly into her water filled eyes. He smiled, the type of smile that made sure everything would be better. It reminded Siren so much of her father's comforting smile. Aiden was all she needed to feel calm and serene again. She moved slowly and hugged him tightly, feeling his arms and calloused fingers as he rubbed her back to ease the pain.

Siren never noticed Aiden's tall built figure and his slender but muscular arms wrapped around her. Aiden was no longer the little boy she used to know but a person who had gone through a lot. She could see his weakness and strength in one quick glance of his eyes. There was so much life popping out of him as if all the hardships made him stronger.

A quick flashback of her memory came through her mind. It was the time she met Aiden.

It was in the middle of summer where the air was supposed to be warm and the trees and grass should be brighter when the sun flashed its hot but cool light into it. Animals and insects should be making their way around the grass filled place as children who had started their holidays fill the streets with joyful smiles and excited faces. Instead summer in Zianada was the complete opposite. It was cold and frighteningly chilly as it gave out an icy blow across the sorrowful faces of children who walked across the streets. There was no hint of joy nor delight surrounding Zianada but was only filled with fear and dread.

Siren breathed in the cold air as she made her way into the colourless streets. It was a quite normal day in Zin despite of its lack in brightness. Suddenly a group of arrogant boys came brushing Siren's shoulder as a loud whisper came across their pale chapped lips. "It's the daughter of Raphael." said the fat boy on the left. "I heard Raphael was replaced by Commander Zardono." the fat boy continued. "Serves him right. He doesn't deserve power when he's always hiding behind the shadows." Murmured the tall boy beside him. "Coward." The middle boy uttered.

Range and anger filled Siren's heart as she stepped forward behind the middle boy's back. You have no right to insult my father. She thought as she reached an arm behind the boy's shirt. Suddenly a small and fragile hand held Siren as they both bolt into a run across the empty filled streets. She stared at the mysterious but exhausted boy holding her hands who dashed into the streets. The cold wind brushed the boys long raven hair making it fly across Siren's face.
