Chapter 14

The rough wind past through Siren's tangled raven locks as she ran through the foggy forest. Soon the afternoon light faded as darkness concealed the world replaced by small stars above the sky nevertheless the light wasn't enough to clear the murky fog.

The monster behind her ran terribly fast as the ground quivered with each passing step, pushing down tall trees as it made its way to Siren. Its roaring noise made her heart burst out of her fragile chest as she tried her best to dash forward. Cold breathes and silent sighs were all she could manage as the monster drew closer to her.

"Siren!" A boy yelled through her right, from afar you could still hear his voice tremble in fear.

Siren ran towards her name as she dodged every obstacle blocking her way. The boy stood behind the tallest tree, his head raised high as his eyes stared frightened at the tall creature behind her imagining what kind of horrible torture the monster had installed for them.

In an instant the boy jumped back to reality as he ran towards the dark monster, his hazel eyes stared daggers at the dreaded creature, his expression showed no hint of fear.

"Kane!" Siren shouted as soon as she stood farther away from the towering monster.

"Go! I'll distract him." Kane ran towards the left side of the creature, his arms waved frantically through the air, trying to catch its attention.

"Over here ugly!" He took some small rocks from the grassy ground and threw it across its fearsome face. Roaring, the monster lifted his slimy foot as it fell down above Kane, the creature grinned. She couldn't do anything but stare in dreadful fear, her heart stammered as her pulse grew louder in her ear.

Suddenly the monster shook back and forth, its hands thrown on his back as it searched from his behind. Siren stared behind the creature as the ground shook with his roar. A shadow appeared on the creatures back, his hands held tight on it's long scales as his feet kicked it's behind repeatedly.

"Kane Stop! You can't do this, you'll die!" She cried, her eyes swelling up as tears fell through her cheeks. "I'm scared. I don't want you to go." She whispered in ragged breaths as she wiped her tears on the back of her hand.

"Well thanks for the encouragement!" Kane grunted as he lets go of the monsters back, running towards a fragile tree. He pushed the tree with all his might, making awful grunting noises. The monster ran towards him, seeking its opportunity to catch his prey.

With a last strong push the tall tree fell towards the monster as Kane stared in bewilderment but just as it fell the creature caught the tree with its hand, held it tight and threw it across Kane. Luckily, he dodged it for a second, his face showed hints of exhaustion.

"Go to Lucas!" He mutters pointing straight on Siren's behind. "He'll take you somewhere safe. Don't worry I have a plan!" He yelled as he darts through the monsters huge slippery hands, in annoyance the monster's deafening scream seem to awaken the forest as the murky fog ran away from sight.

I doubt that. Siren thought to herself as she clenched her hand and ran towards the deep forest, silently praying for his friend to come back safe.

Minutes past and still there were no sign of Lucas. Her bare cheeks were ruddy with cold and her legs complained more loudly with every step. The chilling wind swirled around her, dirt crunched beneath her cold bare feet, while ahead the dark trees grew higher and scarier until it was lost beyond the darkness.

Her knees weakened as she fell on the rough grass. Cold sweats fell down her face as she caught her breath. It seemed like forever before she could regain her strength again. So she lay on the ground not minding the danger lurking around her, she was exhausted from running and tired from all her emotions that she wanted to break free.

A soft voice quietly called her; the sound seemed to whirl around her as it called her name again and again.

"Siren..." It whispered, spreading throughout the dark forest. The voice had a familiar tone but her head ached painfully as she tried to remember.

With all the little strength she had left she pushed her body to stand and followed the sound of the voice. It was calming to hear, like a soft melody that gently lured you to it. Siren felt calm and serene as she neared the voice and it grew louder and louder on her ear.

A small shadow appeared in front of her and as the moonlight shone towards it showed a beautiful girl with long caramel locks falling beneath her small knees. She looked fragile as she tried to walk towards Siren; her white dress flowed beautifully against the wind as a grin creped on her face. Slowly, she pulled out a gun on her side pocket and pointed it at Siren, her eyes smiled.

Siren shook her head, as if to awaken from her nightmare but to her horror it was all real. Slowly, she backed away while she stared at the strange girl but suddenly she dropped the gun and fell to her knees, sobbing in pain. Siren walked closer to the girl despite her instincts wanting her to run. The sound of night was quiet that only her sobbing surrounded the silent forest.

"What's wrong?" Siren whispered but all she got was a weeping in reply.

The girl held Siren's wrist and placed the gun on her hand. The gun felt slippery on her fingers but heavy on her hand, the light shone across from it revealing its silver and sleek design. It was small but it was enough to take one's life.

"Kill me," The girl said her voice steady and stern.

"No. I would never." Siren said, shocked by the sudden change of the girl's mood.

"You'd want to if you knew the truth." She muttered, staring at her eyes. Her expression showed no sign of fear, pain or anger. She looked indifferent, like she didn't care what Siren would do.

"I would never hurt you. We can help you get out of here, find a safe place and..."

"And what? Be happy? You don't know anything Siren!" The girl stood up, anger flared in her eyes as she took Siren's hand and placed the gun on her own face.

"You'll never accept me. I'm the reason why you're all in this mess." The girl's voice now trembled and her body quivered not because of the cold breeze but the fear growing inside her.

"What do you mean?" Siren whispered, staring at the girl in front of her. How could a little girl do all of this? She pulled her hand away from the girls face and threw the gun away from them.

"Coward, you're the reason why your parents are dead."
