"Happy birthday to my adorable, most perfect boyfriend ever! Happy birthday to you!" Harry sings when I get into his car. I roll my eyes, not knowing what to do when he sings that.
That's the problem with birthdays, you never know what to do when people sing happy birthday to you. It's always a very awkward experience.
"Thanks." I say, as Harry drives off.
"You're officially 19, how does it feel to be old?" He says, taking some roads which I've never been on before.
If he kidnaps me, I will kill him.
"I can feel the wrinkles growing on my face." I joke sarcastically and Harry pinches my cheeks, luckily still keeping his eyes on the road.
"You seem to be going bald too."
After he teases me about being old, I end up making a mental note to tease him even more when he officially becomes an adult, because I know how annoyed he will be over that.
The sun is slowly setting in the background as Harry drives a little further down the unknown roads.
So far, the day's been pretty great. I got a new iPhone from my parents because mine was about 7 years old and I couldn't be bothered buying another one. I spent the day with my family, who were a little more distant than the last time I met them when we got the letter from UCL.
After that, we had a small water fight with my sisters and cousins, which was pretty fun, apart from the fact that I was ganged up on because I was the oldest.
Eventually, Harry turns into a small road and at the end I see a small beach and I can make out a small picnic basket and big box wrapped up which is, I'm assuming, my present.
"Surprise!" Harry yells, hoping out of the car. "You told me you loved beaches."
I smile and give him a big hug and a kiss. "Thank you frog."
"All good hedgehog." He says, grinning and taking my hand to sit on the sand. "Open the box."
I nod and take the lid off the huge box and find a very small box inside it and laugh. Manipulative little shit.
I take the smaller box and put it on my lap, taking off the lid and see a Gucci leather watch lying inside.
My mouth drops open as the setting sun hits the watch, making it sparkle.
"You were complaining about always never knowing the time, so do you like it?" Harry asks, expectedly.
"I love it!" I exclaim but then realising that it must have cost him too much. "But it's too expensive! I can't accept this."
"Oh come on Louis, I spent ages looking for it." He says, pouting his lip.
I sigh and kiss him, because that's what he gets for sticking his lip out like that. "Thank you so much Harry."
"Anything for you hedgehog." He says, making sure to tease me about that.
"It's weird, most couples have nice nicknames like love and sweetheart and we call each other hedgehogs and frogs." I comment, realising how weird we are.
"Well, at least we're unique." Harry says and I laugh.
After a few minutes, the sun has set and a small street light is the only thing illuminating the beach. I'm lounged onto Harry's chest like it's a pillow and his arm is wrapped around me.
"Hey Louis?" Harry asks and I look up at him. "I've been meaning to say this for a while but I thought I'd wait until now."
"Mhm?" I ask and Harry takes a deep breath.
"Uh... I love you." He says and I swear my heart stopped beating for a second. He loves me as well? Oh thank god. It would be so awkward if he didn't. "I mean, like, if you don't back, I'm sorry, I thought I would just get that off my chest. Shit, did I ruin your birthday, I didn't mean to. If you want to go home we can just-"
I interrupt him by placing my lips onto him, locking them in. It's a short but sweet kiss, waking up all the zoo animals again. Today his lips taste like sugar, probably because of the meringues he was eating earlier.
I pull away before adding, "I love you too Harry, more than you can imagine."
And that's how we ended up making out on the beach below the stars.
And also the story about how we ended up getting yelled at and running to the car, driving away while laughing our heads off.
