Matthew 22:36-40
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
LESSONS/REFLECTIONS:
Di ba po, pinag-aralan natin sa religion classes natin nung elementary o high school ang tungkol sa TEN COMMANDMENTS?
Then minsan, may nagtanong kay Jesus. ANO DAW ANG GREATEST COMMANDMENT?
Jesus answered in verse 37-38 ( and memorize these TWO please)
First.
LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR HEART.
Sa book of Mark and Luke, kasama ang WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.
Nakapaloob po dito ang nakasaad sa first half ng ten commandments sa Old Testament (see Exodus 20) na
1. You shall have no other gods before me
2. You shall not make carved image and
3. you shall not bow down to them and serve them
4. Do not take the name of the Lord God in vain
5. Remember to keep the Sabbath day, holy.
And the second greatest commandment.
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF
It pertains to the second half of the ten commandments:
6. Honor you father and your mother
7. Do not murder
8. Do not commit adultery
9. Do not steal
10. Do not bear false witness against your neighbor.
In short, JESUS summarized only the commandments into two:
LOVE GOD and LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR
These are also stated in Mark 12:30-31 and Luke 10:27.
Memorize po natin ang TWO GREATEST COMMANDMENTS na ito and put them in our hearts and write them in our minds (vice versa). On the contrary, in God's New Covenant with us (sa book of Hebrews) GOD actually writes them in our minds and put them in our hearts.
