Chapter 11

The next morning the girls sat around the table quietly eating their breakfast, it was strangely quiet for them.

"Mommy, why did daddy leave you?" Avery asked

Angie looked over a Liz who smiled at her for comfort "He didn't love me anymore" she said sadly remembering that he did love her one time but long before Elizabeth was even born.

"Is it my fault?" Avery asked looking down at her food, Liz Julia and Angie looked at each other sharing the same confused frown on their faces.

"Is what your fault?" Angie asked looking at her daughter

"That he didn't love you anymore, is it my fault?" Liz, Carolyn and Julia sighed feeling guilty for the little girl.

"Of course its not your fault Avery and I don't want to hear you say that again okay?"

"I'm sorry mommy" Avery said

"It's okay, come here" Angie said holding out her hand and pulling Avery onto her lap

"Why doesn't he like you?"

"It's complicated"

"Did you tell him about me before I was born?"

"No"

"Why?

"Because I was scared that he will take you from me"

'Do I have to call him my dad and spend time with him/"

'Not if you don't want to" Angie said hugging her daughter close to her chest. 

After breakfast Avery played with her dolls while the others cleaned up, Liz heard a knock at the door and went to answer it.

"Who is it?" Angie asked and stopped not knowing what to do after seeing who it was

"What are you doing here Barnabas?" Liz asked annoyed

"Well I came to see my daughter" he said

"I told you I didn't want you near her" Angie told him

"I just want to talk to her and see what she's like, I don't need to tell her that I am her father"

Angie sighed "fine but I don't think she will like that very much" she said not in the mood to argue, Barnabas walked past and Liz smiled at Angie and wrapped her arm around her shoulder and the two walked into the living room.

"Hello" Barnabas said "Can I play with you?" he asked looking down at Avery. Avery looked up scared and shook her head.

"Avery why don't you just try playing with him for a little, you'll make him sad if you don't" Angie said crouching down pushing Avery's hair behind her ear.

"NO MOMMY, YOU SAID I DIDN'T HAVE TO PLAY WITH HIM AND CALL HIM MY DADDY, HE DOESN'T LIKE YOU SO I DON'T LIKE HIM" Avery shouted and ran upstairs.

Angie sighed and went to go after her but Barnabas grabbed her by the arm "did you tell her to not like me?" he asked annoyed

"No I didn't" she said ripping her arm out of his grip and walking up to her daughters room

"I think you need to leave now Barnabas" Liz told him

"I'm not leaving till I talk to Angelique, I need to ask her a few things"

Liz rolled her eyes "fine"

A few moments later Angelique returned back downstairs "Angelique can we talk for a minute?" Barnabas asked

"Sure, but Liz and Julia are also sitting with us, I don't want to talk to you alone"

"That's fine"

"Carolyn, Avery wants you to go to her room" Carolyn nodded and went upstairs.

The others sat down in the living room, Angie sat between Liz and Julia and Barnabas sat in front of them.

"So she knows I'm her father?"  Angie nodded n response

"When did you tell her"

"I didn't"

"Then how did she find out?" he asked

"She had a dream that you were taking her away from me and you told her that you were her father and you can give her a better life than I can" she said as a few tears slipped, both Liz and Julia held her hands. Barnabas wasn't sure how to respond to that

"How did you react when you found out you were pregnant?"

"What?"

"How did you react Angie?"

"I was scared! I was scared that you will find out and that you would take her from me as soon as she was born I told you that"

"Who was the first person to know"

"Liz"

"what? when did she find out"

"The day before we had the fight"

"You told me you found out that night?"

"I lied, I found out the day before and I thought about telling you and then when it came to it I got scared again"

"Why did you lie and tell me you found out that night?"

"Because I know you would have been more mad if I said I found out the day before and didn't say anything!'

"Well you're right" he said

"Okay that's enough" Liz said

"How did you tell Liz?"

Angie sighed and thought back to that day.
