Chapter 22

The girls arrived home and Carolyn carried Avery upstairs to her room, Liz sat on the couch and held the tape recorder in her hands and stared at it.

"Lizzie, can I sit with you?" Liz nodded and moved over to make more room for Julia, Liz placed the recorder onto the table and pressed play.

"Liz, I don't know if you are going to receive this but I really hope you do, I need you to get this. I am so sorry for leaving you, but I couldn't live any longer knowing that I am what's wrong" liz and Julia heard the tears "I am the reason for every bad thing that has happened to you and your family, I am the reason why you were mad at me today, I am the reason for everything and maybe Barnabas is right? Maybe I am a horrible mother, I slept with someone who didn't love me because I wanted him to love me and I was the reason she grew up with out a father figure, I am the reason why your daughter never got to live a normal life because she was scared that it would be a full moon outside, I am the reason why you lost your home, I am the reason why David never grew up with out a mother, I am the reason for the death of Josette and Barnabas' parents. Everything that happens is my fault and I am so sorry for that Liz and I want you to know that you are the one I love and nothing will ever change that, you and Avery are the best people I ever had in my life, please take care of her for me? I love you baby...Goodbye my love" it went dead and then there was silence, Julia's hand covered her mouth and Liz was doing the same, both has tears running down their cheeks again.

Liz stood up slowly and picked up the tape recorder and threw it hard against the wall causing it to break "Lizzie?" Julia said placing a hand on her shoulder, Liz turned around and slapped her hard across the face, Julia held her cheek and the two stared at each other for what felt like forever, until Liz clung herself onto the smaller woman and sobbed. "I know sweetheart" Julia sat down with Liz and placed Liz's head on her shoulder and soothed her.

"Lizzie?" They heard a small voice and turned around.

"Hey jellybean" Julia said as she walked around to sigh between them.

"Hey baby" Liz said as she pushed Avery's hair behind her ear. "What are you doing up?" Avery shrugged.

"Do I have to live with my daddy now?" She begun to cry. Liz and Julia both looked at each other. 

"No, I told your mommy I wasn't going to let him take you and I am keeping that promise" she said and held the small girl.

"Can you sing me the teddy bear song?" Liz And Julia nodded and Avery laid down in their laps and the two begun to sing. Halfway through the song Avery fell asleep and Liz carried her up to her room and tucked her in and kissed her forehead. Liz picked up her jacket to hang it up and a piece of paper fell from the pocket, Liz picked it up and folded it revealing the picture Avery showed her earlier of her and Angelique holding her hand, she noticed another drawing which only had her and Liz, Liz knew it was her and not Angelique because she was in the same position. Liz placed the photo with all three on the night stand and kissed Avery again and left the room.
